So... Some things never change, huh? Lol lol lol These comments have a familiar ring... Sounds like 1984-1986 all over to me. 1/12 th FA, anyone? Lol. Well, I'm reading the reviews approximately 3 years after my first posting... I wonder doth we all protesteth a bit much??? No one promised us "flowery beds of ease" when we signed on the bottom line, just the opportunity to join a LONG LOOOONG line of defenders of our freedoms that too many seem to take for granted. Yes, Ft. Sill could sometimes try the patience of old man Job himself, and I didn't achieve my personal goal of retiring from active duty (long story), but my 5+ years helped make me who I am today. I thank God for the privilege of serving with mostly honor, if not much distinction.    Read moreIn late Feb of '70 when I was getting ready to DEROS, I filled out my dream sheet, aka next duty station request. I asked for east coast or west coast. Naturally the Army sent me to Fort Sill, OK. I wangled a transfer from III Corps Artillery to B Battery Staff and Faculty Bn, USAFAS. I worked in the Allied Liason section. We took care of the foreign students who were there at the Artillery School. I drove a station wagon and did some typing. No heavy lifting. I worked for Maj Tyler and then Maj Sarantakes. Good duty. CPT Graw, LT Fernandez, CPT Berg, LT D'Arienzo, CPT Hudson, SSG Holbrook, SSG Akins, SP5 Rich worked in the office at one time or another. CPL Jim Hillestad, USMC worked down the hall in the Marine Corps liaison office. Best wishes to you...

Nearby is the guardhouse where Geronimo stayed after a few late nights in nearby Lawton. Geronimo is buried on the fort grounds, as is the famous Comanche chief Quanah Parker [next to his mother Cynthia Ann, who was kidnapped by Comanches at age 9 -- fascinating story]. There is also a large museum of artillery pieces that you'll likely easily see as you enter the post. Military buffs could easily spend a full day here -- do your research and find a good map to bring -- the fort is big, and the roads...
