First, we went to Marengo Cave for a family trip that was a couple hours away from home, which was nice. Then we traveled about 17 mins further out of our way just to eat at the famous Overlook restaurant, which was very disappointing. We waited an hour to be served and the menu items were way overpriced. I ordered the Beef Manhattan and my party of 5 agreed the food was pretty bad!! Wasn’t homestyle at all. It all tasted like it came from a package or a can, even the meat and mashed potatoes! I am a former employee of The Olive Garden and Grindstone Charlie’s so I think I have a pretty good idea of what good food quality and service should be. I will say, the view was wonderful and and if I’d ever go there again I’ll go for a beer at the bar. On my next trip to Marengo cave I’ll go have a picnic at a nice nearby park or eat at one of their tables outside! Please don’t eat there! It’s awful.

We went with another couple and waited about 45 mins at 3:45 which I was surprised at considering it was late for lunch and way early for dinner but it was a pretty day and you can sure enjoy the view while you wait. I had the fried chicken and it was good but my husband had chicken fingers and they were better.. more tender and the crust was sooo good. The sweet potatoes were perfect as were the baked potatoes. A friend had the open face roast beef with gravy and she said it was very good. The gravy looked like icing on the sandwich.. gorgeous. Corn was very tasty also. Our server was Amanda and she did a great job not only refilling drinks but letting us know why our meal was taking a bit longer. She was fun to joke with. I look forward to coming back. Oh btw Google The Overlook does not have a Sunday Brunch.

I really can't tell you much about most of the food at The Overlook. I get the fried chicken every time. It's one of the few remaining places that can do it right. Crunchy outside, moist inside, and HOT. Now that I think of it, I don't know anyone that's had anything besides the chicken. It's like a meal made by your grandma or favorite aunt. Their sides are the basic ones you'd expect. The desserts include cakes, cobblers and pies, some that are made in-house and some from a local bakery. With the desserts, we're back in the grandma / favorite aunt area again. Then there's the view. It's very picturesque bend in the Ohio River, and you can see it from the tables, and two different decks. They picked an excellent spot.

I have to say that it has been years since I was last here. My memory of that visit was that I liked it and they had a good selection of food. I knew I would be in the area and was looking forward to a visit. Nothing, however, like I remember from a decade ago ince there and seated.

First off, it was a Sunday afternoon, not very busy, and they were out of more types of food than they had. It is difficult to understand how a properly managed restaurant could not order properly and keep food in stock for their customers. The waitress addressed us and was fairly nice and ran through a list of what they were out of. We ordered two things that were supposed to be available to only get told a few minutes later after the order was placed. Sorry, they were out of those items as well. I ended up getting friend chicken, and it was not bad. I have higher expectations, but it was ok. Mac & Cheese was dried out and nasty. Mashed potatoes and gravy were also not good. It was very expensive though for what you got.

Floor was pretty dirty and not swept or vacuumed, which presented an unclean atmosphere in the dining area.

The only real nice thing was the view of the water. Outside of that, I will be skipping this place for a long time if I'm in...

Prior to new ownership this restaurant was consistently 5 starts. It was one of our go to places for special occassions. Since they have switched hands I'm being generous in giving 3 start. Prices have been hiked and food quality had declined. Used to we could go in buy 2 meals and have left overs for lunch the next day. Portions were huge and the food was amazing..My husband used to look forward to the fried shrimp dinner..it was always big beautiful plate filled with yummy shrimp...last time we went he got 6 tiny shrimp..they were dry and over cooked..looked like a child's portion for entirely too much $. Asked the server what was up thinking there may have been a mistake. Young man walked away and asked his manager..said no, portion was correct, the meal comes with 6 shrimp sorry..no offer to make it right or discount..anything..we aren't normally people to complain at resturants , but it was pitiful for the cost of that dinner. We were so upset we will not return. It's unfortunate because we used to always look forward to going up there, but we will be finding a new local resturant...

My wife and I went there for Thanksgiving dinner since Kentucky was locked down because of the covid-19 virus. The tables were spaced out at least 8 feet apart. We were pleased that we were seated without any waiting and our table was in the corner with windows on both sides of us. The service was great and the portions was very large. We had Turkey, dressing, candied sweet potatoes, corn and cranberry salad. 14 February, 2023 Valentines Day. We were very disappointed in the fact just a small menu that was very expensive. There was no side orders to replace the fancy ones that most people do not eat. When I said I can not eat greens they did offer me a side dish of mashed potatoes. We both ordered the cheapest of the 4 entrees which was pork tenderloin with applesauce topping with charged Brussel sprouts. With tea and coffee it came to 62.00 plus tip for both of us. One other problem was that it was so cold in there we both were cold while eating. The only thing I can say is that the the new owners have ruined a wonderful place for people to go to for a nice meal and a...
