I rarely leave reviews, but I feel compelled to share our experience to hopefully help others avoid the same mistake. We visited this restaurant hoping for a quality seafood dinner, but unfortunately, it fell far short of expectations on every level.

The food was bland and poorly prepared — the fish was overcooked and dry, the sides were cold, and nothing tasted particularly fresh. We waited nearly 40 minutes for our meals, and when they finally arrived, they were clearly not worth the wait.

Service was another major issue. Our waiter, a teenage boy named Landon, seemed completely unprepared and disinterested. While I understand everyone has to start somewhere, basic professionalism and attentiveness were lacking. He mumbled through the specials, forgot our drink order twice, and had to be reminded to bring silverware and napkins. At no point did he check back on the table to see if we needed anything or if the food was okay.

I don’t expect fine dining service from every restaurant, but I do expect a minimum level of care and respect for the customer experience. Sadly, we didn’t receive that here.

This visit was a disappointment from start to finish. We won’t...

My wife and I are there on a Saturday night. A little busy but not excessively so. Food was mediocre, I had fish and chips. The fish was overcooked and dark. My wife had a sandwich that was ok but the roll was dry like it was old.

Both our orders required us to return to the counter to get them put together correctly. I did not receive tartar sauce or lemons they had asked me if I wanted when ordering.

My wife's club sandwich was incomplete, missing bacon and dressing.

Considering they have counter service only, the $47.00 cost for food served in a plastic basket seemed higher than I expected, especially when the order was not even made properly.

While at the restaurant I observed staff having to correct orders at 3 other tables because of similar issues with incomplete or wrong items with an order.

I have been visiting the Baited Hook for over 50 years, but I don't believe I will bother going again based on...

I can’t say I’ve eaten at many restaurants where I was not only dissatisfied but angry. I wish I had refused the order and asked for my money back.

This is a tourist trap, avoid. Ordered the lobster roll for $32, and the scallop roll for $28. Received a single piece of toast with 4 scallops and a lobster roll with perhaps a half cup of lobster on it. The rolls tasted slightly funky like the oil used to fry it was old or the grill needed cleaned. Came with a tiny cup of slaw (maybe 1/4 cup volume) and a small bag of potato chips, the sort you get from a vending machine. Definitely NOT worth nearly $80.

I had a $30 lobster roll in Maine. It was at least 3, maybe 4 times the size of this one.

Left hungry, went home and ate leftover pizza from Ziggys (highly recommended!)

Would be a ripoff at half the price. Avoid this place, there are better options....

I took a busload of senior citizens on a hike to Smith Pond. After 4 miles in and out, our adventurous group was ready for a filling lunch. I contacted The Baited Hook well beforehand to see if they could accommodate our large group, and the response from Dawn was swift and positive. Once we arrived, everyone's orders were placed quickly and efficiently. When the food arrived, I heard only good things - particularly notable from a group who has lived long enough to speak their minds without any filter. To top things off, the restaurant's site is sublime. Perched on the shoreline of a glassy Mascoma Lake reflecting the beginnings of the fall colors for which New England is so revered, we couldn't have asked for better. We're looking forward to our next visit.

The new owners of the Hook have made some amazing improvements!! First, the menu - the selection is great for the venue. Exactly what you would expect, but higher quality food and great selection. Some of it is locally sourced too. Second - the staff is always so friendly and willing to help. Third - the technology & POS system is state of the art with pagers and digital screens. Fourth - the atmosphere is SO cool! There are multiple options for seating...inside, window seating, picnic tables, rockers, benches and even some grounded boats! It's a theme-like setting with great tunes throughout. The new Hook is the regular spot if you are local. If you are traveling, it's the new destination!
