Long post so get ready. Yesterday we experienced DT’s America. We decided to try a new restaurant in Lee’s Summit for happy hour…it was $5.99 burger night. The place is pretty big & it was PACKED. We sat at the bar & I noticed that besides the couple sitting next to us, we were the only melanated people in the place. Remember I said the place is big & it was PACKED. I didn’t see any melanated employees either.
We exchange pleasantries with the melanated couple next to us at the bar. We asked them if they’d been there before & what they recommend. They told us & then they leave. We place our order. We order wings for an appetizer & he orders a burger & I order a chicken sandwich. A few mins later a non-melanated couple comes in & sits next to us at the bar. I hear them order burgers as well.
About 10 mins later the manager comes to us & says did you all order a burger? We say yes. He then tells us that he’s so sorry but they ran out of burgers. He says they’ve only been open 11 days & it’s been really busy & they weren’t prepared for the crowd. I said it’s ok, it’s probably just growing pains…it comes with the territory. He says yeah but it’s still unacceptable. We ask if my chicken sandwich is still coming & he says yes & would we like to order something in place of the burger. Dale says no, I’ll just eat these wings. The manager then explains the no more burgers situation to the couple next to us.
A few minutes later a server comes out with 2 burgers & places them in front of the couple next to us! We look like whoa! We ask the bartender how did they get burgers when they came in after us AND ordered after us???? The bartender literally shrugged & said you’re right, I don’t know how that happened. We continued to question him & he looks at his tickets & says yeah I’m so sorry but I don’t know how that happened.
We’re both sitting there fuming while this couple is sitting there enjoying their burgers. Dale asks AGAIN & the bartender says I don’t know…I’m sorry ‘my dude’. I finally say I don’t want the chicken sandwich…let’s just go. I cancel the sandwich, we pay for the drinks & wings & leave. As we’re walking out…he sees the manager & tells him how messed up it was that he told us there were no more burgers but the couple at the bar that sat down & ordered AFTER us still got them. The manager apologized again & said would you like us to order you one from another restaurant? WTF?!!!
I say all this to say….eff 30 Hop in Lee’s Summit! We will NEVER go back. I’m disappointed that we tried this place. I’m disappointed that we tried this place & had this experience during Black History Month. I tried to let it go but I woke up this morning still thinking about it. This is exactly why I prefer to spend my $$$ in my city with my people. Have a peaceful day people…I’m...
Read moreThe experience was okay, I think we were overall a little underwhelmed. A few notes, as a party of 3 with one child.
Truffle fries were a home run, they were SO good. The only critique we have is there was not nearly enough of the truffle dipping sauce. It came in a 1.5-2oz ramekin stainless steel and was only half full. We had to ask for more. $13 to share this app. The kids mac and cheese was delicious but the portion size was so tiny. Our kiddo was still so hungry. Some places absolutely do overdo the portion size, this was so small. She ended up having some of my noodles. It also would have been nice to have a side option like steamed broccoli, which she loves. Their side options were applesauce, fries, or cottage cheese. My husband ordered the poke bowl. We love ahi, particularly poke bowls, we were excited to try this. It LOOKED fantastic. Keyword—looked. He took a bite, the tuna was so tainted. You know when fish is bad, especially when you eat it often. It smelled fine, but the taste was terrible. Ahi is NOT supposed to taste “fishy.” I took a bite, and can confirm. It was definitely spoiled, despite lack of tainted smell. Thankfully, they kindly took it back and replaced it with a different entree. His replacement entree was the umami burger. Delicious! Except, just too salty. The pretzel but took a minute to get used to, but it was good. We’d probably prefer a regular bun. Otherwise it was pretty good. I tried the yakisabo noodles with ribeye. It would have been the second best thing we tried, but it was SO salty. It was still edible though, we kept it and finished most of it. My husband had a Neon Kittens from Grains and Taps (so good, you gotta try this one. It’s a hazy IPA and we fell in love with it when we visited this brewery last weekend). We were so happy to see it as an option on their beer menu. I tried the vanilla pear mule. It had both vanilla vodka and pear vodka in it. The vanilla vodka was… a choice. I would have enjoyed it with just pear better.
Overall… on the fence about whether or not we would return. It won’t be a memorable experience, to say the least. There’s so many great places to eat around this area at a much better price point. We spent over $120 easily, that’s a bit much for mediocre at best food. We’re a little disappointed. It’d be one thing if this were a stand-alone restaurant. But it is a chain, and we can’t say we’re entirely impressed. We’d return with friends and family if we were invited out and maybe would try something else, but as a regular outing location? Not a chance. Which is a shame, because the restaurant’s ambience is really nice. It’s modern and clean without being too sterile. Our server was nice. But...
Read moreI really wanted to like 30 Hop, but unfortunately it's not the kind of place I will choose to go to in the future. My party of 2 was quoted a 20 minute wait but we opted to sit at the bar seeing that it was open seating. When we arrived, the bar was a little busy but we were acknowledged and gotten water, menus and our first round of drinks in a little over 5 minutes. Not bad for how busy it was. We put in an order for the brussel sprouts which were definitely over cooked but the flavor was good so that's not a deal breaker. However, during the time it took to eat the appetizer, the bar thinned out a lot. Our original bartender that helped us completely disappeared for a good 15 minutes and then finally popped back behind the bar. Mind you, we had a seat right next to the POS and this bartender repeatedly kept coming to print receipts and use the computer, pour drinks, and assist other customers while completely ignoring us, glasses and plates empty. There were 2 other bartenders at the time as well that were way more interested in chatting lengthily with people they seemed to know and kept walking past us, glasses and plates still empty. Finally at almost 30 minutes later, we were finally asked for another round of drinks. The sangria was not it. Entirely too sour, watery, and downright unflavorful when there were 3 ingredients that are supposed to add sweetness: Cointreau, peach nectar, and agave. I got none of that in the drink. The same person that got us that round asked for my opinion on the drink because I assumed it was a common issue that the drink is not good. I figured it was batched and I was told the day time bartenders batch the drinks. It's obvious that no one tastes the product they are putting out to see if it tastes how it's supposed to. The thing that sent our disappointment home is that we had every intention to spend more money here and get actual entrees but no one ever gave us a chance to put an order in. After waiting so long, we finally just lost interest and decided to go somewhere else to have dinner. For $55 for 2 drinks each and one appetizer, this felt like a waste of money. As people in the service industry, we usually tip 30% and really try to give places the benefit of the doubt, but the service was absolutely abysmal. For a newer chain restaurant, I would've expected the service to be more on par and staff better trained on the steps of service but sadly this was not the case. I would much rather spend our money and support businesses in downtown LS. We likely...
