El Plato Mexican Grill & Cantina — Restaurant in Lee's Summit

Today I had a bad experience around lunch time at the restaurant, I got in the restaurant it was my first time visiting, I had a gift card off $25 and I asked to the waitress to check my balance before I ordered the meal, she got my card and never returned until I chose the meal that would cost me 15$ about, then she came back and said I only got $14.33 on my gift card, I asked her can I have a balance paper of my card because since it was my first visit it was impossible to have only 14.33. She went back inside and talk to other person and came back to me and said she would just consider the 25$ from the card. At was ok and then she asked where I got the gift card from… At the end when was time to pay she told me that I had to use the entire amount in the gift card other it could not be able to use again next time… when I asked why she wanted the person that was with me give me cash and I use the card to cover the both bills. This place is great! Get a reservation if you’re going on Friday or Saturday night. We got there at 5 pm and still had to wait 30 minutes for a table, even though there were several empty tables, because those folks had reservations.

Our server, Brian, was excellent!! He kept all the drinks full managed multiple requests, always brought us more chips and took great care of us.

We were are party of 6 and everyone enjoyed their food. My niece had the tamales and she loved them. My nephew had a special plate of spicy beef and peppers and he loved it. Both had enough leftover for lunch the next day.

My wife had the grilled chicken enchiladas, which she loved! I had the soft tacos, 2 beef and one shredded pork. Excellent!! I’d get 2 pork next time. It was SO good!!!

It’s pretty loud in here, but the atmosphere is fun. The staff has a good time. We have been here a few times and always enjoy it.

The cheese dip is excellent, but $10 is a little steep on the price. The drink prices are high too. Those are my only complaints. But rent and labor cost...

Lots of thoughts about this place. I will say, if you don’t like cilantro, this is the place to go. I really don’t think it was in any of the food that we got to the table- including the free salsa. The salsa was good otherwise, just felt really lackluster without the cilantro. Also really wanted the cilantro in the green Chile verde sauce, but it was not there. The tacos were delicious, however it was not mentioned anywhere that the BOGO taco deal on Tuesdays only included ground beef. Also was disappointed to see that on a taco Tuesday there were only 2 servers on the floor. Our server was really swamped with all their tables and it unfortunately did affect the service we got. Not their fault, it just sucks to see service suffer because of inadequate staffing.
