I don’t like to post poor reviews for any business however, our experience at this bbq joint is deserving of less than 1 star. Let’s start with the salad, it was served with brown lettuce. A second was requested with fresh lettuce and this was accommodated however, the cheese was ROTTEN! When my wife took a bite she had to rush to the restroom. This is unacceptable! Issue number 3, the burnt ends were not truly burnt ends. They were cubed cuts from the flat of the brisket and not cut from the point as they should be. There was absolutely no bark in site and they were served in a pool of liquid in a sad attempt to make them juicy. I, myself am a pit master, and pride myself in my burnt ends and ribs. These were definitely the worst of the worst for burnt ends that I have experienced in the KC area. The only thing they had going for them was the smoked flavor. Next, the ribs. One of the ribs on my 2 meat platter was cooked well and juicy, the other was very dry. Again, the smoke flavor was there but the texture was not. The other meat I chose was the burnt ends, and well, I’ve already given my opinion on those. I chose sweet potato fries and baked beans as my sides. The fries were okay, nothing special, but no complaints there. The beans, on the other hand, I only took one bite and the rest were tossed in the trash. We had very high hopes for our lunch yesterday and unfortunately The Filling Station disappointed at every turn. I hope that they can take this review into consideration and make some improvements to the...
Read moreThis place is great! I accidently stumbled upon The Filling Station while looking for another barbeque joint and I am very pleased to say that I'm glad it happened. When I walked through the door, I was welcomed with the beautiful aroma of delicious Kansas City Barbecue being prepared. There was no fat whatsoever on the Burnt Ends, the fries tasted good and fresh, the baked beans and the coleslaw are awesome!! I have since been told that their ribs are freakin' amazing! The decore is great with a early 50's/60's "Bee Bop" vibe going on and golden oldies music playing through out. The gentleman that took my order was very nice and the restaurant was clean and inviting. It is in a old Mid-century Texaco filling station with the original sign out front and where the pumps use to be, there are four picnic tables to enjoy yourself in the warmer weather. If you live in or around the Kansas City area or you plan on visiting the area anytime soon, this is one of the places that you "need to try". Well worth the drive from any direction and from what I understand, The Filing Station can get very busy but Please don't let that keep you from trying. Enjoy...
Read moreA Kansas City tradition to have BBQ at an old renovated gas station. I went with the pulled pork and sweet potato fries. The fries were nice and crispy on the outside with a fluffy inside (like they are supposed to be). Seasoned just right. The pulled pork was succulent and had great flavor on its own without sauce. I love the older forty's style diner mixed theme with some really interesting nostalgia thrown on the wall. Major kudos for not playing xmas music. The place was very clean and quiet. The service was super fast and friendly. While I didn't get a smile with my order, I wasn't yelled at halfway across the parking lot begging for my order either (Gates BBQ is famous for that). The spicy/hot BBQ is just right for me. They also have a regular and a sweet sauce. Looking over the menu, there was also an option for carolina style (thinking might be moonshine or similar, didn't try it). Smelled great walking in the door. An excellent place to take a...
