So here's the deal all you foodies and local business supporters...choose your time while Jazzy B's is open. Come in single numbers or big parties. Sit yourselves down, look at the menu, find something that resonates with your tastes and order! Visit with your peeps and feel the vibe. Chit chat until the grub starts arriving.
As a musician myself when I dined the first time (today was not that day) I realized quickly the business owner was not messing around where on the entire east wall are several rows of legendary Jazz musician photos and under each photo is a detailed bio. That speaks depth. Take a sniff and smell the room. Serious food is being created. The digs arent anything fancy, plastic wear, rolls of paper towels for the tables, you get my drift...nothing extremely fancy except a down to earth vibe and then the food comes. Honestly...its serious! REAL SERIOUS! My crew digs the fish + chips. Lips smack everytime! For appetizers we love the crab balls and cheese stuffed jalapenos! My personal fave is the 3 meat platter with their signature jazzy b's fries. Spiced in a way pleasant to the taste, cole slaw + their take on cheesy corn. The meats i chose are 3 pork ribs, 3 chicken wings (reputable sized) + burnt ends. I'm particular about burnt ends and these have NEVER disappointed!
The staff is friendly and several come around and visit casually with you making sure all is well...have everytime and then you realize one of those folks for those "not in the know" that youre straight up talking to the owner.
Finally, located in Lee's Summit we drive 30 minutes each way from Merriam, KS to eat this grub! Killer food, killer staff, killer vibe makes it a win win win situation! So don't think twice about it. Just go there and for those of you regulars reading this you know I...
Read moreFar Too Loud This was my second visit to Jazzy B's. I remembered the food being very good and was looking forward to it on a Friday evening. Arriving shortly before 7, we were surprised to see that there would be live music. It's a small place but the stage area doesn't take up that much space, yet it was a bit surprising in any case. However the performers had their equipment turned to volumes appropriate for an outdoor venue of 10 times the size of Jazzy B's. Attempting conversation was nearly fruitless. I will admit the singer had a fantastic voice and the music might have been very pleasant to hear at 20% of the volume being used. As it was, our evening enjoyment was severely diminished.
Now for the food. The crab balls are incredible and I would order them every visit. I can't imagine anything on the menu is better than the crab balls. All 4 of us ordered 2 meat plates, each with 2 sides. I love tater tots and that was an option so of course I ordered the tots. The menu should include a warning that the tots and fries include cinnamon and sugar. I'm sure that some people, mostly children, would like that on their tots. But that is certainly not a good option for a side to a BBQ meal. The beans were quite good, as were the cheesy corn and the potato salad. The ribs, burnt ends, and brisket were all very good. The chicken wings included some of that cinnamon sugar, so they suffered from that treatment.
Service was not wonderful, with our waiter disappearing for long periods of time. However one of the other staff filled in for him, so overall service was not terrible.
We'll likely go back to Jazzy B's after making sure there is no live music, and I'll make sure not to order anything with the Jazzy seasoning, if that's the correct name. I'm looking forward to trying the...
Read moreWent here with my wife this afternoon, with no expectations. I actually thought it might be a cajun joint, but it's bbq all the way. We were met by a friendly hostess, and chose to sit at the bar. Quickly after we were seated, the owner Brandon, a big hulking man but very warm and friendly, came to welcome us and took our food order. He suggested a couple of apps, one of which were Armidillo Eggs... this has no eggs at all, but stuffed jalepenos. Amazing! Our bartender/server was Stephanie, and she was awesome... adding to our unexpected dining experience. We ordered the 4meat/4sides platter, with wings, sausage, burnt ends, and turkey. Sides were Fries, potatoes salad, jicima coleslaw, and baked beans. Everything was delicious, but there were a few standouts. The beans... I'm a HARD sell on beans. It's not often i care for them, but theese were great. The potato salad, if your not a fan of blue cheese, don't get it. I loved it but my wife was so-so. The Jicama slaw was a homerun. Normally slaw is just a boring side. But this wakes up the pallet in a delicious and refreshing way. The meats... man, what can I say. All superb! I don't want to downplay them at all because they were amazing! But the standout... THE WINGS! Holy hell! So crispy on the outside and tender in the middle, WONDERFUL smokey flavor! Probably the best wings I've ever had.
Overall, Jazzybs well exceeded any expectation I might have had. I loved the family style atmosphere, where the owner and servers arent above chatting with you. I felt like we made friends there! We're normally a Jackstack couple, but for a 1/3 less price, and equal or exceeding Jackstack quality... you better be on you toes Jackstack... There's a new and upcoming fighter that's going to take...
