We are regulars at Hawaiian Brothers, so we had to try the competition ;)
We dined in which felt a little strange eating out of styrofoam containers in this really nice establishment. I mean the interior of this place was beautiful. Seemed brand new, super cute decor, great vibes and music, sparkling clean. Then ate out of styrofoam with a plastic fork….
Speaking of plastic utensils, it wasn’t exactly easy to cut the big pieces of meat with them. I do think the meat at HB’s is easier to eat as it’s already chopped up. But just a personal preference.
We tried all three types of chicken offered and the steak. The least favorite of all was the steak. Pretty chewy and not a lot of flavor. The katsu chicken also lacked flavor. The stars were the teriyaki chicken and pulehu chicken. Both delicious and packed with flavor. There were some fatty pieces, but the biggest complaint was the excess of char on them. Picked it off so I wasn’t eating pure cancer carcinogens. The rice was good and the one thing we will give them over HB’s is the macaroni salad was much better.
All of the sauces were great. Service was great. Prices, not so much. We did use a coupon (a BOGO ad is what brought us in), but can’t say we’d voluntarily come back and pay full price. Unless they added a side veggie option. Their menu could use some greens.
Photos pictured would be the regular size. $13.99 starting price, $1.50 up charge for steak.
Drink selections: coke products. No other diet soda besides Diet Coke so that was a bummer. No iced tea. Plenty of sugar-loaded juice options though if...
Read moreThe first time we ate in MO Bettahs was in Overland Park three weeks ago. Then, we decided to eat out after my husband's final heart check up for this month. We supposed to go to a fast food for a drive-thru when I remembered I and my daughter loved what we have in MO Bettahs in Overland then my husband told me they have a branch in Chipman Road where is closer to where we live that's why we were here that day(March 18, 2024).
The set up is almost the same in Overland Park but the only difference is the kind of art wall decoration - they have more and big art walls that reflects the Hawaiian touch to it.
The service was so fast. Per order you need to select two main courses
My order: Pelihu and Teriyaki Chicken Brown rice Macaroni Salad Coleslaw POG(Pineapple Orange Guyabano)
My husband order: 2 Pelihu Chicken(they didnt have Steak option that time) White Rice Macaroni Salad Coleslaw POG Juice
Daughter: Keiki - Kid plate Fried chicken White Rice POG Juice
Their food is very tasty and flavorful especially if you add more Teriyaki sauce(free). We loved it.
In the Philippines my favorite place for chicken cravings is Chicken Inasal so told my husband that here in the USA MO Bettahs is my Chicken Inasal.
Just a little note: I hope they also have spoon especially for brown rice since they aren't sticking each other its so hard to eat with just fork.
Overall, if you are looking for Asian food taste, MO Bettahs is my top recommendation especially for...
Read moreWe’re all comparing this to Hawaiian Bros, so I’ll compare pros and cons between.
Plates weight about the same. Mo’s gives you less rice in theirs vs HB but for the cost between each, MO’s gives more meat. MO’s meat is more bare / larger and not chopped down like HB does. MO’s mac has absolutely no flavor compared to HB, so HB takes the win there. You also can’t sub the mac for veggies at Mo’s like you can at HB. , im not a fan of hot cabbage under MO’s meat vs the nice bed of rice Hawaiian bros offers. But Hawaiian bros typically uses a thick bed of rice to hide that they use less meat in their dishes which I’m not a fan of.. MO’s rice is better than HB’s. Softer and more hydrated. Sauce wise, HB wins, their sauce isn’t the most flavorful.
Over all compared, Hawaiian bros Pros: more rice Has max substitute options more flavorful mac more flavorful meat delicious sauces
Hawaiian bros cons: less meat more sodium not as authentic taste
Mo Bettahs pros: More meat Better tasting rice More authentic taste
Mo Bettahs cons: flavorless Mac can’t substitute Mac with veggies warm cabbage bed isn’t good okay sauces less rice.
Overall, as a person preference, I’d probably pick Hawaiian bros over...
