I'm really loving the new management, but I think they might need to retrain their in house manager. Same recipe cinnamon rolls but they are WARMED UP when they are brought to the table! The only problem I have with the new management is it seems like the guy just stands around... Doesn't really know what to do. In my experience (7 years restaurant) it would be better if he was going table to table, checking in on how food is/getting refills. I've only ever seen him stand and wander around, or go sit in the office. The few times I've seen him drop someone off at a table he just drops the menus and walks away. Doesn't say anything to them, doesn't look to see if they're behind him, just drops and walks. (Most specifically he did this to an older couple that used a walker and took a bit to get to the table, and they absolutely were not busy)
Fantastic food, atmosphere is great, though it would be nice if an extra door or external breezeway was somehow added to keep the wind and chill out of the first dining room. Servers are extremely attentive, the few times my coffee gets cold is when they are beyond busy (which I get and am not worried about). I've exclusively had breakfast, no matter what time of day I arrive. I do the Country Fried Steak breakfast platter, exceptional. You can tell they make it in house, it's not a frozen thing. Expect $15-20/pp. When I dine alone it's just over $20 with tip. It can be hard to find parking depending on what time of day you go, but that's to be expected. Always a great time at Neighbors, can't...
Read moreWhen we arrived the hostess did not actually seat us, she just pointed at a table and said “you’ll go there.” So we did. I get they were busy, but that started us on shaky footing. It took about 10 mins for a waitress to acknowledge us, bring us menus, waters, etc. Okay, they are busy so I want to give grace but people who arrived long after us were be attended to. Free cinnamon rolls came with the meal. We were very excited to try. One was good, but one was very stale. We all want to reduce food waste but the day old goods probably should have been tossed. Then a waitress knocked over my husbands drink and spilled iced tea ALL OVER him. Listen, no one wants that to happen and it was not on purpose but she attended to the mess before the person. We had to ask for paper towels so he could clean up his arms and shirt because they were more focused on the floor. Then I had to ask for them to replace the beverage. No discount was offered, we paid full price for that drink in his lap. When we got to the car after the meal I burst into tears because this was my husband’s birthday breakfast and he wanted to try this local restaurant we had heard so many great things about, but it was an absolute bust for us. I’m sure our experience was not universal but we will...
Read moreDowntown Lee's Summit is such an awesome place and Neighborhood Cafe is a great place to eat. If you are looking for a good, home-cooked meal as an alternative to all the chain restaurants, then you'll love Neighborhood Cafe.
Atmosphere: It's not fancy, but the decor is pretty cool. They have famous front-page newspapers framed on the walls showing historic moments in history like V-day, the assassination of JFK, and the the moon landing (among many others). The wait staff is very friendly and it is a seat-yourself, casual environment. When you are ready to pay, you have to take your bill to the settle up. They don't tell you that and the first time I sat there a long time waiting to pay.
Food: I have never had a bad meal here. They serve breakfast all day (which I love). I have also had several of their sandwiches and wraps and they are all super tasty. One bonus is that they bring hot, fresh cinnamon rolls to every table before your food comes - and their homemade cinnamon rolls are the BEST! You can also get them to go, which we have done a couple of times.
Price: The prices here are very reasonable. Expect to pay $8-10/person which is about the same as what you'll pay for most fast-food now, but the taste and quality is...
