My girlfriend and I went into this brewery on 3.11.25 and upon entering, we were greeted with friendliness and smiles. The place wasn't incredibly packed and we took a seat on the separated end on the bar. After sitting down and pulling out our 2025 Kansas City Pub Passes, their attitude changed pretty drastically. The woman taking our order kind of walked away and the older gentleman working the bar told us that our Pub Passes would only account for a $6 value and the remainder would have to be paid for. The explicit purpose of us buying the passes was for the free beer as is states several times throughout the booklet. We decided that it wasn't a dealbreaker for us and went for a flight since we couldn't cash in our free beers. They proceeded to ask for a pre auth for a card, to which we asked if we could still pay cash and were assured we could. About 20 minutes into sitting down, a large group of people starting shuffling in and they started setting things up for trivia and we asked "should we move?" they said you should be fine and we proceeded to be right in between a loud mic and a bunch of people walking around. It was at that moment we decided to pay and leave because, needless to say, this wasn't the greatest experience. After making eye contact with the bartender and gesturing, he walked over to us, leaned against the counter, looked the opposite side of the bar, and walked away from us. We paid with cash including a tip despite the service and wound up getting charged another $20 on our card (which we are disputing with our bank). The place looks cool, and maybe we came on an off day for staff or something, but definitely not a place we would like to return to. From the change in attitude, to not honoring the Pub Passes, to being sandwiched between a trivia night despite asking if we would be in the way, and finally getting charged on top of our bill and tip.. there is simply better in the KCMO area. (Not for nothing, about 30 mins prior to coming here we used our pub passes at Llewellyn's a few minutes away and the bartender there said "Oh, I love stamping Pub Passes, I've stamped a bunch lately!") UPDATE: To âthe ownerâ, I appreciate the response, but it doesnât change the issues with our experience. The only reason we ordered a flight is because the majority of your beers are more than $6, we were also surprised we werenât able to use both of our passes on the flight since it was 5 beers. The $20 charge is still on my account, despite being told it would disappear, and Iâm now disputing it with my bank. Your explanation of the Pub Pass and itemized breakdown isnât the issueâour treatment noticeably changed the moment we presented it, something we havenât encountered elsewhere. We were misled about our seating for trivia, then ignored when trying to settle the bill. Instead of addressing these concerns, your response reads as a condescending attempt to âeducateâ me on how payments work rather than acknowledging the poor service. If only one thing was wrong with our experience, this review wouldnât exist. That level of unprofessionalism only reinforces why we...
Read moreIt was okay. Honestly it was very hit or miss. Whirligig Wheat was okay, Per le Tartaruga was quite nice. Surprised by how much I enjoyed the Cartel with salsa. Yes, a gose (sour) beer made with salsa. They really pulled that one off. But Racket - Ambrosia was too sweet and cloying like a kid's perfume, and both the Goomah and Borgata Family 2 had a bad acrid/chemically taste that made them impossible to enjoy. Food was good and prices are very fair. 2 Soft Pretzle Sticks got inhaled. Mustard was very nice, slightly sweet whole grain mustard but the cheese sauce was just nacho cheese like you get at a gas station. Kulakofsky Panini was decent, but corned beed was a bit rubbery and hard to bite through which made it difficult to eat the sandwich. Loaded Waffle Fries add pulled pork was delicious, highly recommend (also ask for the BBQ sauce too!). Very mixed bag. Service was great when we first came in, but they stopped coming to the table after taking the initial order and asked us to just "flag them down" which was difficult when our server was in a back room and the other person holding down the fort was engrossed with conversation with the only other person inside was seated at the bar. They do have a self-serve water station, indoor and ourdoor seating, well-stocked boars game cabinet, and corn hole outside as well. Free menstruation products in the women's bathroom which I always respect (though the full soap dispensers are out of order which took me a minute to figure out). Overall okay, but severely disappointed with the multiple industrial-tasting beers they...
Read moreNow, if you follow my reviews you know that experience is EVERTHING! I mean the beer could be mediocre but the experience incredible, or the beer could be "to die for" but the experience lackluster, it all plays into how I review....here, at The Goat, it started out lackluster. We weren't greeted upon entry, or even as we took a seat at the bar. We took cues from other patrons on how/where to order. There were about 6 people total, but only 1 bar keep who was obviously tending to other orders...but no greeting, no quick "Hi, welcome find a seat and I'll be right with you". We followed the cues and lined up to place our order for flights and nachos. Thinking we'd enjoy our time, regardless. By the time the flight arrived additional staff came in and the delight of the experience doubled!
The nachos, happy hour $2.00 off, were amazing! A topping on each nacho! The flight...we tried one of all on tap...had something for everyone! I loved the Valentines day massacre and the spicy chocolate...while it was a cider and sour that stood out for me today, I'd come back for just about every pour I tried.
If you are looking for an experience, not just a quick beer or bit, this hit the mark. The company I was with always makes adventure fun, but the experience we have at a venue makes or brakes our plans to return. The atmosphere, pours, and food hit the mark.
Enjoying life 1 sip, 1 bit and 1 small town at a...
