We decided to try based on other reviews. Perhaps our experience was an outlier, but it needed to be better to warrant a return. We ordered drinks to start, and though it was busy, it should have taken less than 10 minutes to get drinks to the table. We also ordered some cheese curds as an appetizer. The serving size was DISMAL, especially for $9-$10; they brought out a small soup bowl that was not even filled with cheese curds. You could get more for less and more flavorful curds at Culver's.
We asked our waiter what he liked or thought was the best on the menu. He literally said, "I don't really have a favorite, to be honest, but a lot of people order the chicken." This didn't exactly boost our confidence in the menu or quality of food, but we held out hope that it would be good.
I ordered the Patty Melt. It lacked flavor, as the meat had no seasoning and was severely overcooked. The bread was stale in the middle while burnt on the crust. There was supposed to be a sauce on it, and I also requested mayo to be added; it came with neither. The fries were soft, not crunchy, and lacked salt or seasoning.
My wife ordered the chicken tenders. We both tried them, and they were flavorless. The only saving grace was the ranch dressing, which gave a little flavor, but it was unfortunate that the chicken couldn't stand on its own. It was the same story as above with her fries.
For my daughter, we ordered a kid's cheeseburger. Upon receipt, we cut it and tore it to make it more manageable, and it was RAW. The waiter apologized and took the burger, stating they would make another. He returned with the same burger. It appeared they placed the same burger back on the grill and returned it, as it had the same cut and tear in it. This is concerning because the restaurant placed food handled by customers back on the grill with other people's food, and although the grill temperature would likely handle any contaminants, it's a poor practice.
The restaurant was clean overall, and parking was ample. Those were the high points for us. We wanted to like this place with it being so close to home, but it just...
Read moreWe've been going to Wally's for three years or so, and have never been disappointed. In fact, we continue to be impressed and our taste buds delighted each visit we make! Our favorite cocktail there (that we've never had anywhere else) is the Sweet'n Spicy margarita. And although we've never had a bad one, those that Amanda makes for us are the BEST! She is also a very pleasant and highly attentive server to her tables, while also taking care of the bar patrons.
I spied a new item on the appetizer menu today and asked about it. Amanda endorsed it thoroughly, so we tried the Crab Rangoon Fritters AND THEY WERE AMAZING! Instant favorite. They are crispy/crunchy, creamy, very flavorful filling, and the sweet/hot (not that hot) chili sauce is just the perfect accent. Soooo good.
Wally's Cluckers (deep fried chicken tenders) and Famous Fries deserve the hype they get and the reputation they have. The Cluckers are the most tender chicken tenders I've very had anywhere and the crispy coating isn't all hard, thick, and too dense like some are.
I first tried The Jive Turkey sandwich around Thanksgiving time last year. The cranberry aioli is just the right flavor to add to a roast turkey, bacon, and cheese on grilled sourdough sandwich. And best part is, it's available year round!
So go get some! I'm pretty sure everything on the menu is delicious. And if you go on Saturday, sit in the bar area and say...
Read moreLet me tell you about Wally's Grill and Drafthouse in Lee's Summit. This place has been a favorite of ours since it opened its doors. You walk in and immediately feel like you're part of the family. The owner, Chris, a longtime Lee’s Summit resident, practically grew up in the restaurant biz. With his wife Tammy, they've created a warm and welcoming spot where you'll often see them mingling with guests.
Now onto the food. They offer a variety of mouthwatering dishes, from veggie flatbreads to steak. But let's talk burgers – they're legendary. You can build your own masterpiece, and trust me, adding their bacon-onion jam is a game-changer. And their Sunday brunch? Don't even get me started. It's a feast fit for royalty.
My family adores this place. Whether it's a special occasion or just a casual dinner, Wally's is our go-to spot. My kids have celebrated birthdays and homecomings here, and it's become a tradition. One son swears by the half so cheezy and cup of chicken soup, while the rest of us can't get enough of the cluckers and fries (seriously, their ranch is divine). And my husband? He's all about the ale-roasted chicken.
And here's the best part – despite the amazing menu, the kitchen runs like a well-oiled machine. No messy kitchens here, just delicious food served with a smile. So if you're ever in Lee's Summit, do yourself a favor and stop by Wally's. You...
