El potro mexican cafe — Restaurant in Lee's Summit

I chose this restaurant for my birthday after seeing it on TikTok—it looked like a great spot. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the start. Our waiter seemed scatterbrained and kept forgetting items, to the point where we had to call out just to get his attention.

The manager’s attitude didn’t help. Instead of taking accountability, she acted as if we were lying or exaggerating, offering an excuse for every issue that came up. One order was completely wrong, then came back overcooked. Another guest requested an additional item so they could eat, but it never arrived. All of our food was served cold or lukewarm, though the plates were oddly hot.

We also asked for a to-go order that was never placed. Flies kept buzzing around our table the entire time, and we were constantly swatting and fanning them away. The drinks weren’t strong, and we were told some couldn’t even be made.

When it came time to pay, we only wanted to be charged for what was actually served and consumed, but they kept stalling and making excuses. I had made a reservation for 15 people and confirmed it multiple times over the phone. They even repeated, “1-5,” and I said yes. Still, they later claimed I said 50, which made no sense—especially since they struggled to even accommodate 15.

The manager acted like she had to keep coming back because we were complaining, but in reality, she had to keep returning because everything was coming out at different times and never correct.

This was my first time at this restaurant, and sadly it was for my birthday. I left feeling extremely disappointed and upset. I might give the restaurant another chance—but definitely not at this location. I hate that this is the memory I’ll have of what was supposed to be a special day. None of the issues were on us, and it’s frustrating they kept trying to shift the blame.Pictures are...

The worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant. I’m a big believer in customer service. I understand that sometimes restaurants may get busy. I arrived at 6:20 pm along with my parents. When we asked the server about some items in the menu, her reply was, not sure , I’ve never looked at it. Seriously. Wow. Then we watched a table of 6 get seated, got their drinks, ate, paid their bill and left. We still have not received our meal. Another table sat, ate and paid and left. Our server walked by several times and did not check on us. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant in plain view. I spoke with the manager, he said he was going to going to get out food. It came out 8 min later. A total of 57 min from time of order to food on table. Omg. All of our food had been sitting in the kitchen . It was COLD to touch. I asked for a manager again and he sent another employee over, who couldn’t speak very well due to losing his voice he said. The original manager couldn’t even come talk to me again. So sad. Their excuse was that they are short handed in kitchen and staff. However, we saw several waiters helping other tables. This was a perfect storm of horrific waitress and very bad service, lying to us and not even offering to make us fresh food or even on the house. We stood up, not eating any of the cold so called dinner and left. My one night in months with my fiancé and my parents. Will never unfortunately eat here again and will tell so many other people. I just went for the first time today. 7/20/23. THIS PLACE IS INCREDIBLE! I am SO picky and judgemental when it comes to authentic mexi food. I was FLOORED by this place. Our server, Jilli, was amazing. So so attentive, everything came out perfect, was so nice to the kids, and everything came out so fast! She was so friendly. I truly wish everywhere we ever go out to eat, I have a server exactly like her. She should be teaching classes or training people. For food- the kids ordered max and cheese and chicken quesadilla. I ordered the Quesabirria tacos. The salsa- so good. You get free cheese dip at every table!! The quesabirria was so good. My only thing I’d change is the portion size of the Comsumme . I personally like to have a lot with onion and cilantro so that I can drink it like a soup afterward. It came with fresh avocado, rice and beans! Big portions! The kids ate everything on their plates (not Normal). The kids meals also came with free ice cream! And not just a simple scoop of vanilla. It was rolled in brownie or Oreo texture & topped with whipped cream and sprinkles . I also ordered the coconut margarita, DROOL WORTHY. I loved it so much, I ordered two. Absolutely perfect experience here. If would give this place 50 stars if I could.
