Green Bird embodies the essence of the Leelanau Peninsula, and I am proud to have worked there. I feel that my association with the with the winery is important to note, because I know it intimately, as an employee but also as a customer. This is a small business, and one that requires an enormous amount of labor, time, and dedication. Pouring wine for customers, I can usually point out the window at the vineyard and draw attention to Tim or Betsy (the owners) working among the vines. They personally tend to their animals, the grapes, and the tasting room. What’s more—they are two of the most loyal, caring, and compassionate people I know. I have countless examples of this, but I want to focus on their most recent efforts in response to COVID-19. I currently cannot work at Green Bird because I am immunocompromised, and anyone who has seen me in the tasting room knows what a bummer this is for me. But there’s a pandemic going on, and it’s tourist season, and I’m trying to stay safe. I want to be clear: I feel safe at Greenbird—much safer than I do in any other social setting. And that’s because Betsy and Tim have done absolutely EVERYTHING possible to create a safe space in the middle of a global health crisis. There’s a porta-potty, a new covered patio, spread out outdoor seating, plastic cups, a wine tasting kit (with a sanitizing wipe, a glass, and a plastic water bottle), outdoor trash cans, and so much more. None of their decisions were made lightly, and they were all made with safety in mind. As someone who is at highest risk of being impacted by COVID-19, their genuine concern for the wellbeing of others means the...
Read moreHad the most amazing experience! Tim was such a gem, shared the story about each tasting we had, and the history behind he and his wife starting this farm together. It’s nestled amongst gorgeous, colorful maple trees and countless vines and apple trees. 360 degree views no matter where you’re seated! Each wine and cider are so flavorful, fresh, and unique. We truly enjoyed each tasting and purchased so many! Also love that they’re organic and sustainable!
As COVID-conscious individuals, we felt perfectly safe. There was clear signage everywhere, where to wait before being seated, Tim himself greeted us and let us know their policies, signs on each door not to enter the building (he and his wife have an adorable newborn), and one noting where the public bathroom is. It was very clearly laid out!
We cannot wait to return and know you’ll enjoy your visit just as much!...
Read moreWow. What an amazing place to visit. I was lucky enough to be able to book a private tour for my friends and I. The owner, Tim, conducted the tour and our tasting. We could feel the passion he put into every bottle of wine Green Bird produces. Green Bird is the only organic winery in Michigan and is a MUST SEE if you're touring the area. The operation is small which means the team is able to pour so many personal touches into how they cultivate their wine and cider as well as the atmosphere they've created for their guest . This is something we couldn't find at any other vineyard we visited. The actual tour aside, each wine and cider we were able to taste set this winery on a whole new level. If you're unable to visit Green Bird in person, I highly recommend ordering a bottle of their wine online. Their cherry wine is unlike any...
