If you are looking for a restaurant that offers a taste of a different culture, then Blue Holler is it. This small cafe is bringing a slice of Deutschland to Kentucky, but don't worry, they also have American-based dishes avaialble. The restaurant is just a short drive from Mammoth Cave NP and has a very beautiful view of the park on its outside balcony. However, it's not currently open to dining outside due to staff shortages. Our server was very welcoming. The decor is also a hodgepodge of German and American trinkets. We ordered the Shrimp Basket, Chicken Fried Steak, Jager Schnitzel, and Zigeuner Schnitzel. The portions were perfect and we even took some home to enjoy on another day of our trip. A small note to out-of-town visitors is that this county is a dry county meaning alcohol sales are prohibited. If you're in the area and hungry, this cafe will fill your stomach happy.

On way to Nolin Lake we stopped for lunch. We love German food and will seek it out when traveling and we're looking forward to our meal. The hostess owner had a very distinct German accent so we got even more excited that we were in for a treat! The warm German style potatoe salad was very good. Enough bacon and very flavorful. The schnitzel unfortunately fell short. It appeared to have been deep fried rather than pan fried in butter which is the more typical. That deep fry and heavy thick batter left it a bit dry and the Batter not light. The large pretzel was good, probably not from scratch homemade but tasted good except for some over cooked (or reheated) tips. Cheese sauce in addition to the mustard was provided when we asked. Would we go out of our way again to visit, probably not.

The food was pretty decent, but the older guy with the white hair is a total jerk. If there is a wait, don't bother coming in. He gave 2 different groups the "don't want your business because we are full" attitude. One group said, "So should we just leave?" and the other group did. We were thinking about getting dessert, so I told my 5 year old to grab a menu from the front. When my son went to grab one off the counter, he yelled at him, "NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!" and snatched it out of his hands. I spoke up and told him that I asked my son to get the menu. They have a basket of candy when you leave the cafe. My kids, 5 and 3, are too small to see up that high, so I put an assortment of candy in my hands for each of them to see what they had and pick a piece. He yelled at them, "We have other kids that come in! Save candy for them! No More Candy!!!" It left an impression on my 3 year old, because he kept repeating in a low voice, "NO MO CAN-DEEEE!!" when we got...

🗣I WILL HOLLER AT THIS CAFE EVEN IF IM BLUE!!! Jasmine, was our server. Claudia is the owner.. We also met the had cook and another waitress. By the end of our meal, we had 4 employees sitting with me, my wife and my dog, I don't know if it was my wife's beauty, my dog's handsomeness, or the way I smelled, but this whole establishment really magnetized to us. We sat there until the Sun. Went down. Had some of the best German food around in years. Potato salad, holy Moly. It was warm. It had bacon in it. Did I tell you Claudia is from Germany? She is one heck of a cook. Great lady and an all around 5 star establishment. I wish they were open on Sunday Easter, because I would go back. Thank you guys again. And whenever we're in the area of mammoth caves, this side of kentucky, we will stop back five stars for blue holler...
