Called at 5:30 and verified there was no wait, put our name down for 6 PM. Got there at 6 PM, nobody greeted us, we had to walk up to people that looked like they worked there and they told us to just sit anywhere. Sat outside and nobody came up to us for 20 minutes. By then we were a little put off but we already knew what we wanted to eat and drink, even though there was no drink menu. Ordered drinks and our meal at the same time. My daughter ordered the she crab soup bc we like it, and the server proceeded to tell us that she had another little girl order it and she didnβt like it bc it had sherry in it? I told her we still wanted to order it. (Like, what?)
My salad came, and it was missing peppers, Romaine lettuce and hard-boiled eggs, and was very skimp on the tomatoes and carrots for being a $10 salad. When the waitress came up to us to check on us, we mentioned that we were still waiting on some items, and that my salad was missing items. She stated if it wasnβt on the salad, they were out of it. I asked for more tomatoes and carrots then since my $10 salad was very meek, to which she returned saying they were out of tomatoes.
She never came to check on us again.
When we had been done for awhile, I had to go inside and ask another waitress for boxes, and that we were ready for the check, they said they would let our waitress know when they saw her.
15 minutes later, still no waitress. Meanwhile, a table next to us was just served a salad with tomatoes on it. interesting.
I flagged down another waitress and asked if we could pay her, which she took our card, apologized and went inside to take care of the check. Meanwhile, our waitress comes back finally to check on us, when I mentioned it was interesting the table next to me just got tomatoes five minutes ago, but yet they were out 30 minutes ago when I asked for it. She didnβt have an answer.
They charged me $40 for six medium sized scallops. The she crab soup was good and the view was amazing.
When we expressed our frustration to our server, she stated that they were busy and that theyβre always busy and thereβs always a wait. When we pulled up at 6 PM there were five cars in the parking lot and probably three tables had been sat at that time. There is no excuse for someone to take so long to come up and greet us, and to not be aware of when weβre done or finishing up and have a sit there and wait for 20+ minutes so we can...
Β Β Β Read moreI've been kicked out of this place more times than I can count and there is no better joint on the Redneck Rivierah to get kicked out of. The decor is non-pretentious as is the menu. The food will impress you, the crowd is friendly but at closing time you gotta go.
Chris's crab cake sandwiches are the best on the bay. Fresh, generous and very tasty. I order mine without the bun so that I can finish it without being overstuffed. Seafood pizza when available will knock your socks off. Fresh catch of the day is always great as are the fish tacos. Burgers and sandwiches on the menu as well. Nice cold beer selection.
The kitchen has been renovated and expanded so the wait time for food during crowded periods is much shorter than it used to be however if you have a big group and it's rush hour(s) the wait can impress you with it's tenacity.
The Tavern is built out over the Potomac River and is therefore located in Maryland. There are nice docking facilities however if you arrive by car or motorcycle, you have to do so from the Northern Neck of Virginia. The place is not really easy to get to from just about anywhere but the drive seems a lot shorter once you have made it.
Cole's Point Tavern isn't an Applebee's, Chili's or any chain style restaurant. It's a historic old bar/dance hall that is privately owned (one of these owners might be that guy sitting next to you with the hat on). The jukebox is a prominent feature both visually and at times sonically. Expect local character and charm. If you get looked at when you walk in the door it's because folks tend to know each other around Cole's Point and they want to welcome you back.
Last but not least: There is a package store (beer and liquor) that sells...
Β Β Β Read moreI was on the fence as to wether or not I wanted to post this, but I wanted my feelings to be heard. I am a first time mom with social anxiety and post partum depression, i have not gotten out a lot since becoming a stay at home mom but my grandmother begged me to take her to listen to the music tonight. We paid the cover charge and sat with her friends and I went to ask the waitress for a drink as I had been sitting for some time and offered nothing, she asked if I needed a server I said not really I just wanted one beer, she said to go to the bar. I go to the bar which has 6-8 people at the time and sit and wait my turn, people leave the bar and the barkeep chats with the people around me in a friendly manner never acknowledging me. I understand bar etiquette so I donβt want to cut and I wait, after some time of not ever being asked I call out politely twice, the third and fourth time calling Maβam. The barkeep continued to ignore me and talk friendly to the people around me even to the point where the woman she was talking to right next to me could see I had been trying to get attention and laughed and said that she would help me, i felt so lonely and ignored that I went outside to cry, i did not feel like I was being rude and could have at least been told βbe right with youβ I wonβt spend any more money there I regret spending the cover charge for the band and I will never go back. Iβm sure you get enough business but just know you made a lonely mother feel even...
