If you want the best of the best when it comes to traditional mead, this is the place to go. The co-owner and brewer, Jon, has SIX international worldwide mead awards to back up his beverages and he knows everything there is to know about mead. From his basic honey wines like A Gift of Venus, Freya's Kiss, and Zam Bee Zee to his unusual seasonal concoctions like Viking Fruit Punch and Basic Witch, you're sure to find something that will suit your palate.
Don't go here looking for beer; this is a place that serves MEAD, the oldest drink known to humankind, as well as a few ciders and some unique wines. If you're a mead lover, this is next-level stuff and you'll never look back. If you're not familiar with mead, this is the place to go to start your journey. They have flights and full pours, with bottles for sale as well as T-shirts, taster glasses, stickers, and even hand-carved horn tankards. Growler fills are available on some of their draughts.
The staff (Co-owner J.R., Cait, Damien, Erin, Sarah, and Dwayne) are fantastic and friendly folks to the last, and the atmosphere is authentically Norse, with the interior decked out like a traditional Viking mead hall, and a fire pit out back in the form of a Viking longship. They are pet-friendly, and even the regulars are helpful and knowledgeable about what's on offer. Really, it's one of my favorite places, not just in Delaware, but...
Read moreIt was okay. There were no traditional meads available during our visit just overly sweetened fruit wines and carbonated ciders. The staff was unfriendly, refusing to give advice on tastings when I asked if they didn't have any traditional meads, what would be the next closest. Consequently, the flight I picked on my own was very, very sweet and not to my liking at all. I realize that sweet wines and syrupy ciders are crowd-pleasers. But I would have appreciated some advice on drier options available. The outdoor area was overgrown and in need of mowing - so the insects were oppressively abundant. There was no indoor seating available when we arrived otherwise we would have gone inside. Hoping to give them another chance because I love traditional meads, no one knew when any would be available for a flight. I will go back, and hopefully with some luck, my experience...
Read moreI didn’t realize there were two Meadery so, I ended up accidentally reviewing the other one that’s up in Seaford but, this is the one that I meant to review this place is the best. I haven’t visited the other one yet so, I can’t say but I’m pretty sure it’s as awesome as this one here in Milton whom serves the best Meade! My boyfriend and I love coming here trying the different flavors that they serve on a little Viking boat, which is so adorable. They have a Viking theme here and a instrumental band plays music I believe once a month which, you should call and check info. if you want to hear Celtic music. They also have board games and they have a TV which you can watch movies like Lord of the rings! You can bring your own snack snacks too, which is awesome so come check this place out for some good...
