My first time her. We are about 5 hours away and needed to go to Cincinnati, so we traveled on down here just to eat here. My husband has eaten here once and loved it, so, I’ve been wanting to try! We ordered the Full slab of ribs with corn pudding, and coleslaw. They had the flank steak sandwich as a special, and the side was their fried tomatoes with their homemade sauce. Also ordered a kids meal of pulled pork and fries. A side of corn muffins and 3 teas. The ribs were excellent. Fall of the bone ribs. Weren’t fatty or dry. Very delicious. Slaw and corn pudding was good. Moist and fresh. The green fried tomatoes was delicious as was the dipping sauce. Just wish I had gotten more than three! Ha! I definitely recommend these even if you don’t get very many (3) it’s hard to find delicious fried green tomatoes anywhere! The steak sandwich was peppery crusted which was good. The steak seemed dry and not very tender. Moistened it up with their apple/bourbon sauce (which is delicious) or I would not have been able to eat it. The kids pork was good, though the child thought it was dry. We tasted it and it was good! French fries are as they should’ve been. The corn muffins were absolutely delicious. Best restaurant ones we’ve had anywhere. The problem is that After my husband paid I asked him to see the receipt. You do not get a detailed receipt. We were charged almost $52. Adding up the prices it should’ve been $45. $23, (ribs dinner)?+4 for drink. $1 for muffins. $10 steak sand/side/drink, $7 kids meal. When the food came I went up and asked about the charges. I said “I’m sorry but can you help me understand how our order came to this? As it should’ve been .. (this amount)” (Around $7 difference) the woman was very rude.”well you got muffins” my husband states “they cost $7” She just walks away. She went to a computer and then went to the girl that rang us up (she was very pleasant btw!) and she came back and slammed $3.11 on the counter and then just walked away. Went back into the kitchen as if I did not exist. No apologies, no explanation, nothing. While the food was “good” her attitude ruined it all. So sorry to have bothered her! If you overcharge your customers by $7 each, then that’s a lot of overcharges! Then to be treated rudely about asking about it. That disappointed me. I didn’t expect anything but an explanation of charges since we didn’t get a detailed receipt and charged only for what we actually ordered. Drinks were included on the kids meal and with the steak sandwich special. We did go up, even though she was totally rude, after we had finished what we were eating, and went to the nice cashier and ordered the peach bread pudding - which was delicious. We knew it would be as he had brought it home to me on his stop there that one time. I do not believe they use fresh peaches, which would’ve made it exceptionally good. I do not expect anything except for being treated as she would have wanted to be treated. We were just going to hit up Citi BBQ on our long trip home, but I REALLY wanted to try this place. I do know when they (Citi BBQ) mess up my order they are not rude about it! I Definitely wouldn’t have added on 3 hours — THREE— to our drive time had I known a person handing out our food would be rude about being questioned about the charges...
Read moreThis is our second time here. First time we weren't that impressed, but it was ok. This time, definitely not impressed. Not sure what all the hype is all about. Just your average BBQ joint. Hubby got the 1/2 smoked chicken with 2 sides, green beans and baked beans with a corn muffin. The chicken was dry and could not taste the smoke. He said green beans were good, but the baked beans were overly sweet. And the chicken was not hot. I got the pulled pork plate with 2 sides, baked beans with Mac n cheese. The pork was a little dry, and was definitely not hot, actually, it was kind of cold, and I got no smoke taste either on the pork. The Mac n cheese was gloopy. Kind of congealed, if you will. And the beans were sweet, overly sweet, in my opinion. The muffin was good. We also ordered the peach bread pudding. Ate that when we got home, that was pretty good, enjoyed that. So, for me, us, this will be our last meal here. We always give a place two tries, and order different each time. If we didn't enjoy the food the second time either, it's a no go. Like I said, not sure what all the hype is all about. Different tastes for different people, I guess. We will continue our search at the Blue Door for BBQ next time. Too bad. I was hoping it would be good this time....one more thing, I am so tired of the tip thing. The young lady at the front counter never said hello or thank you. They call your name so you have to pick up your plate, no thanks, not even a smile, and you must dispose of your own garbage, why should I tip? But that has nothing to do with my review about this place, it is based solely...
Read moreWe saw a bunch of reviews for this place online and everyone spoke very highly of it. I’m not sure how other people are hyping this place up when the food was literally flavorless with strange textures. This establishment has waged a war against seasoning and flavor. If their intention was to eliminate taste, they’re winning. The brisket was like cold pot roast with burnt fat pieces. Amazingly, they’ve found a way to make the texture of the ribs both similar to beef jerky (with full membrane intact) and rubber simultaneously. The best way to describe the flavor would be what I imagine road kill raccoon without seasonings tastes like. The Mac n cheese looks so appealing, but is also flavorless? Was it real? Idk. The egg rolls were cold inside. The fried green tomatoes had no salt, and the batter was raw towards the tomato. It was my first time trying them so I don’t have anything to compare them to. We spent over $100 on a family of 5 and the only redeeming quality with the food was the corn bread. As far as the atmosphere, it was 90+degrees Fahrenheit outside and the air conditioning was sub par. The cooks are likely in need of medical attention because it got hotter towards the back. The place isn’t really clean, but whatever. We had to repeat ourselves a lot to get the order correct and were missing items. The staff didn’t really seem interested in anything, but again, they’re likely suffering from heat exhaustion. The hotel that shares the parking lot is sketchy. It seems like people live there and it’s very dilapidated. I wouldn’t feel...
