First visit and super impressed! I have so many great things to say about our first visit to Old Trail Tavern. We are fairly local but just haven't ventured out until now. We tend to be on the "pickier" side about food which is why we cook at home most nights. We care a lot about quality, sourcing, taste, cost, how things are prepared, etc. We try not to consume a lot of seed oils so we were delighted when we found out that they fry their french fries and other items in tallow! I even reached out to find out more about the tallow and they emailed me back right away and were completely transparent. I really appreciated that. We haven't been impressed by many other local places lately and it's been a bit of a bummer to not have a restaurant that we really "love". Also, with the cost of food rising we feel it's important to get a quality meal when we do want to spend on going out to eat. So we had a special day last week and we chose to go to OTT to celebrate. Upon entering I really loved the atmosphere. Sometimes bars can be "dumpy" but this was not like that and had a real "pub/tavern" type feel. Also, It's an odd thing to notice but their lighting is almost perfect! I despise bright cold white/blue LED lights and their lights where warm, orange, and inviting. It wasn't dark but it was cozy and gave off a perfect glow. We happened to know our server so of course that was a delight and she did an excellent job (thanks Steph). Now to the food...My husband got a steak and sides. He really enjoyed the steak and I thought it looked delicious too. He said it was seasoned perfectly. I got the firecracker shrimp and they were soooo good. I will get those again! I got a side of fries and balsamic mushrooms. They were also very impressive. The fries were crispy and had that scrumptious tallow taste that I love and the mushrooms were bursting with flavor. I fully expected the mushrooms to not have much flavor and I was wrong. One other thing I wanted to compliment is that I really appreciate on the menu that they say where some of the proteins are sourced. Many of the items specify where it comes from or more specific details about the meat. I appreciate the transparency of that because then I know what I am getting. It matters. So all this to say, I think this restaurant is doing a lot of things right and I'm glad this little gem exists in our community. I hope every experience is as good as our first time eating here. We hope to make this our "go to" place for special occasions. Keep up the...

I am convince they pay for any review over 2 stars. My daughter wanted to go to texas roadhouse for her 18 th bday, i talked her into this place based off the reviews and facebook posts. The food looks so good in the pictures. We made the 40 minute drive from shermansdale. 3 of us ordered auce wings, my wife got the bacon bourbon burger (she said it was fantastic), and my 16 year old got the 8 oz filet. Wife’s burger came out 10 minutes before anyone else’s good, our wings were barely cooked, my daughter ordered med/rare fillet and it came out med/well. But we don’t complain about food, so we ate it, my daughter said her fillet tasted like seafood, and not good seafood. I thought she was just being picky so I said give me a bite. It was absolutely gross, tasted like it was boiled in water that shrimp was cooked in. I got another order of wings and asked for extra crispy, they came out soggy again. Our bill was 160$, 166$ if paying with a card. We left a 34$ tip because the waitress was good and its not her fault the food sucked. Next day i called and spoke with Lauren hench the gm, she apologized and insisted on sending us a gift card for the entire amount. I was very happy about that and thought we probably just had a bad experience. The following Sunday (mothers day) my wife and i were heading to the races at selinsgrove, so we decided to stop and try it again (without the gift card). My wife got the 8 oZ fillet this time and i got the french dip. Food came out and the french dip looked amazing, i took a bite and my water with lemon had more flavor. The bread was the best part. My wife’s steak (ordered med/rare) came out med/well. She took a bite and i asked her how it was, she was disgusted. Again, the steak had 0 flavor, 0 seasoning, i could microwave a better steak. I asked to steak with lauren hench, she came to our table, i introduced myself and told her the food was the same as Wednesday. I told her im not paying for it and when the 200$ gift card showed up, i would simply throw it in the trash. I wish i would have taken the refund she offered but i wanted to like this place so bad, i like supporting local, family run businesses. I have never been so disappointed with a restaurant in my life. I wasted my daughters 18 th bday and mothers day here. The orange crushes are amazing though, service was very friendly but unfortunately that dont make up for terrible food. DO NOT believe...

Here's the story: my husband and I went during "happy hour." Cocktails, we were told were $7. We were asked what kind of bourbon we would like. They did not have it; gave us 2 choices. (I am not a bourbon connoisseur, so I requested the 1st one the server listed.) We rec'd our check. We paid $48 for 3 drinks, that we 'thought' were going to be $21. Asked the server about the charge; she passed us on to the bartender, he 'tried to explain' that the bourbon we chose was their 'most expensive' and our cocktails were $16 EACH! WE WERE NEVER INFORMED THAT THERE WOULD BE AN UPCHARGE!!! (obviously, would have chosen the cheaper-chicken). We tried to explain we were not aware of the upcharge. "Oh, let me go see if I can do anything,." He came back to say, "our Manager is a couple of 'doors' away and will be down to "EXPLAIN." THAT WAS IT!!! DONE!! My husband paid the bill as we rec'd it and said, "if it's just going to be more explanations, we're done." HORRIBLE BUSINESS PRACTICE! WE WILL NEVER BE BACK!!! Really??? for a difference of $27 you are going to lose customers that have been coming and referring you, and bringing family, etc??? You will NEVER make it with this kind of business practice. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED!!!!!! NEW UPDATE: Devon, the Owner, called me yesterday and was very apologetic and he did make things right with us and is making adjustments with his staff and further training. We are so grateful that he made that call as we want all our local businesses to be successful and prosper. That call was a game-changer for us. Looking forward to enjoying more good food at the Tavern! UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: We returned this evening and EVERYTHING was fabulous! Our server was Sarah and she was WONDERFUL!! We had the Grilled Swordfish! It was fabulous! Not only did Devon give us a wonderful dinner, Sarah - out of her own kindness, paid for our...

Went here a few days ago for the first time. I am new to the area and live not far but pass by very often and have seen it jam packed full of cars some nights so I was slightly intimidated. When we arrived early in the evening on a monday we were some of the only people there. Got served very quickly and our waitress was nice and informative. Food was pretty good. The pretzel bites appetizer was a little underwhelming. I'm not sure what it was, if they were overdone or what but they were kind of wrinkly looking and feeling. Just not what I'm used to when I've gotten them other places. The calamari was very good. Also got the espresso martini which was delicious and I was pleased that they carried some wine from the local Hunter's Valley Winery because we had just visited there and I got to continue drinking the wine from there. For entrees we got the drunken steak and shrimp with french fries and mac n cheese and a cheesesteak sandwich. All were very good. Steak was smothered in sauce which was delicious but since the shrimp were also saucy I think it was a little too much sauce on my plate. But everything tasted great. They offer some desserts. We were celebrating a birthday so got a piece of cake and they put a candle in it which was nice. We will definitely be back again to try more of the dishes or just stop in for a drink sometime. Glad to have found a good local spot we can frequent.

I've been seeing posts on Facebook with pictures of the awesome looking food for months. We finally decided to try it out. We made a reservation and looked at the menu to plan ahead for the 45 minute drive to get there. The first thing we noticed is the parking is awful. It was busy but we were seated right away due the reservation. We wanted asparagus. They were out of asparagus. It was still early. So many people came in asking for asparagus. How could their planning be that poor? They were also out of several other things. They knew it was going to be a busy weekend. We changed our menu plan that we were looking forward to. Took a while to get our food, but understandably because it was busy. Our food was subpar. My prime rib was quite large, but there was nothing amazing about it. Actually, as you can see by the picture, I had to cut about 8 ounces of fat and gristle off. I usually devour fat, but this was too much to handle. My wife did not like her salmon at all. Our green beans did not look appealing, at least not like the Facebook photos, but they were good. The waitress was busy, so I can't fault her for any inattentiveness due to being short staffed. The food was not worth $72 or the time we wasted traveling to get there and back. There was a long line when we left, so apparently some people like it or there's nowhere in Liverpool to eat. Perhaps we just had a bad experience.

1st Time there… for my birthday dinner, did NOT disappoint. They do NOT take reservations but can put you on a waitlist (needs alittle work you can tell) recommend the waitlist (make sure they put you on it) and expect a WAIT regardless. WAS WELL WORTH the WAIT even on the waitlist!!!! My New York Strip Steak was Medium Rare toped with a sauce Crab Cake & Shrimp on a bed of wild rice & asparagus. MOUTH WATERING GOODNESS!! Appetizers, fried onion rings, and fried pickles, absolutely positively amazing. Definitely will be back!! I advise older children as it is a small Tavern about 5 high top tables, about 6 four-two person low top tables and bar seats about 8 people. NO booster seats, NO high-chairs. It is a Tavern/Bar, Patience for seating an there’s really no standing room, they take your number and will call you so either you’re standing outside or in you’re vehicle. There was outdoor seating but not in use when I was there in December 30, 2022. Bartender, Waitress and Cook staff where pleasant, attentive except there was a negative patron. they listened to the individual but also only entertained there issue so long…. Think this person has done the same things to them before by the way conversations were… Always one in the crowd… BUT NEVER WOULD OF EXPECTED THIS!! This is one of those DO NOT JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER TAVERNS in the MIDDLE of NOWHERE all but!! 💯🤤🤤
