We were in Pray, Montana the first part of October. During the week, many of th restaurants are closed due to the end of season. Emigrant Outpost was open so we have them a try. The atmosphere is cozy like you've lived here all your life. I ordered the Ribeye and my wife had the veggie pizza. The steak 🥩 was what I expected out of Montana beef. Delicious and cooked to perfection. I can even tell the difference in quality from Arkansas beef and Montana beef. The ribeye was $33 and seating was limited due to everyone coming here. We got lucky. Also, just like any restaurant during covid, they were short staffed but the wait was well worth the cozy conversations and the sounds of the locals at the bar. Highly recommend.

Can I give it more stars??? We happened upon this place on our last day in Montana and ended up staying about 5-6 hours!! The people were beyond friendly. The owner, Chuck, was helpful and informative. The bar staff was fun. We created a new drink—just ask for the Eliza—named after the bartender who was doing a fantastic job on day two. There was a pool table you had to pay for but we didn’t mind. We played the TouchTunes jukebox and ate some really great food. Everything from pizza to fancier pastas, burgers, etc. We all bought matching merchandise to commemorate the occasion before we left. Totally enjoyed the location, the view of the mountains and the people. Hopefully we can go back!!!!

I don’t know if I’m just hungry or our food up at Canada is incomparable, but this food here is AMAZING. The service, I think the server is called Maggie? Sweet as hell. We were sort of those annoying needy customers, but Maggie kept a smile on her face the whole time. The service was amazing… The atmosphere, I am from Canada and we don’t have much restaurant or pub like this. This place hit me so hard I instantly told myself this is America… It ain’t no small town back at Canada. The atmosphere reminded me of those saloon pub things in western movie, especially the Bison, moose, deer, bear, pronghorn, jackalope (very surprised) elk taxidermy. This place is amazing… VERY RECOMMEND THE BISON BURGER!!

The rudest staff I have ever encountered. Tried to get food last night but the kitchen closes at 9 apparently (not 11 like written here) when we literally got here at 9:02. There is no other food or grocery store in the area open, you would think they would be slightly forgiving to people who are not from the area, especially since the special kitchen hours are not specified anywhere. Even if I can understand that, the lady who served us drinks was still very rude and just raised her eyebrows when I asked what they have (a normal question!! Bars do have specialties or select things on tap, not everyone just walks into a bar and knows they want a cheap Coors Light). Then when I called to get a takeout order today because we couldn’t dine it, just because I asked what meat pizza specials they have (the website doesn’t work and there’s no menu posted here), the person on the phone snapped at me and said to only call if I know exactly what I want to order, even though I said there’s no menu online. She could not be bothered to take 30 seconds to explain what they offer, she could just say “we have normal pizza toppings.” I feel from the tone it was the same worker as the night before. I don’t know - this place seems popular, but I strongly feel it’s just popular with the locals or people who LOOK like people from this area (which is definitely not me or my boyfriend). Or maybe they just need to fire this one worker who clearly has no passion for food offered here and feels it’s a burden to deal with people who sound or look...

This is the best off the beaten path pub I’ve stepped into and I frequent off beaten paths!!!! Immediately greeted by Chuck the owner and Lisa, obvious long time friends, she is clearly his right hand, a dynamic bartender, server, and zoologist!?!? how cool is that??? They both immediately welcomed me and my friend and got to know us! We were passing thru tired and hungry, yet they made us feel like part of the familiar family/community that seemed to gather there…or are they all spontaneous group of individuals random yet highly social people that create togetherness within the magical rooms of Emigrant Outpost uniquely on any given day? Live musician singing a Bob Dylan song that brought me to tears, a couple got engaged and shared champagne with everyone who of course gave toasts and cheers all around…and we haven’t even gotten to the food yet…The food was SO GOOD!!! Beautiful plating, The best smoked brisket I’ve ever tasted, melt in your mouth brisket and I agreed with my friend his fish and chips were “better fish and chips than we got in London!” must have been all the love in the cooking, in all the guests, Chuck and Lisa, in the restaurant, a hub of goodness and humanity and elevated down home food and drink, I would recommend to all who understand the connection between our hearts and...

I'm not one to write many reviews unless my experience is less than desirable. We were traveling to Chico hot springs for a few days and stopped for dinner on our way. Our waitress was not very friendly and by the end of our meal that was the least of my complaints. While we were waiting for our food, there was an employee (who was not working at the time) sitting at the bar eating and proceeded to feed a couple sitting next to us bites of her steak off of her own fork!! She was laughing and carrying on and was not taking no for an answer. We were very appalled! We got our dinner after a lengthy wait. My daughter ordered the special which was chicken alfredo. It came with about 4 pieces of chicken on it, angel hair noodles and no alfredo sauce. It was basically buttered noodles with some green garnish and no flavor at all! Needless to say, she only ate 4 bites. To top it all off, we got our bill and the "special" was $27!! I hope they take their reviews in to consideration and work to improve...
