Taste of India was...interesting. first the decor: Taste of India is lovingly nestled on the far end of a semi-functioning truck stop. One enters and is met on either side of the doorway by tall colored glass vases of unmatched arrangements of plastic flowers; on a column to the left hangs an impressionistic print of a female flamenco dancer (!), and on a shelf behind that is an undecorated, white, artificial Christmas tree. All the red drapes are drawn. The general impression of the decor is 1950's bowling alley.
Our waiter didn't really speak or understand much English. I enquired about the Chicken Curry entree, a king what kind of curry -- green, red, Massaman, etc. He repeated the word "curry," a couple of times and pointed at Chicken Tikka Masala on the menu and said; "very nice." I took that as a word to the wise and ordered that instead. We came in as a group of a dozen, and found only two other tables occupied, and one of those left as we were beginning to order; despite that, it took a long time to receive our entrees. As we waited for the food to arrive I sipped my water and it tasted...off. Thinking either something was seriously unclean and potentially dangerous, I ordered a coke -- in the can -- the next time I saw our waiter. Eventually, our food arrived. It was...okay. My Chicken tikka masala was acceptable. The basmati rice was quite nice. The gent next to me ordered Tandoori chicken. He found two backbones in the dish. Eww.
So how'd we do? The problem was that most of the restaurants we were most inclined to visit in Livingston, AL, on a Saturday at lunch were closed on Saturday or opened late in the day. So Taste of India was selected as an alternative to a McDonald's or the Sonic. In summary, I feel we may have been better served by electing the fast-food option. The decor was goofy, the service was spotty and often unitelligible, the incidentals were borderline spooky, and the food was no better...
Read morePlace was great. Not sure what the other reviews are about, perhaps day shift is not good. I was there around 2100 hours. Great customer service. Ordered the garlic naan x2, lamb masala, paneer??(cannot remember, but was vegetarian homemade cheese with onion and pepper), and the raita soup. My wife did not eat hers, due to spiciness. I did not think it was and enjoyed it. I also enjoyed my vegetarian dish. The garlic naan was good, I will have to try it again though to give an honest opinion. The raita soup is my big complaint, it never came out. Asked the server who did not speak good English and he just said no soup (he was not the guy who took our order).when we got the bill, I pointed to it. He said they didn't have any soup. Just wish I was told that when I ordered it. The waiter was not pleasant, (speaking wise/language barrier). But he kept hour water glasses full and checked just enough to make sure we were good. One last thing, they provide (chips and dip) before the meal. It comes out in the form of 2 tacos, but not sure what kind. My wife said they smelled and tasted fishy. I didn't smell or taste that. The green dip, spicy, but flavorful. The red paste was great and was mild. The pico looking stuff was ok, but I will stick to the green and red sauces next time. I can't wait to go back and try...
Read moreMy husband is a truck driver he came one night right before closing a ordered some daal and roti to go. He was so tired he didn’t even eat it that night. He woke up the next morning to eat it and it smelled so rotten. Obviously it wasn’t no where near freshly made and prob made it a month ago and kept frozen until someone orders. He called them that very morning with me on 3-way and told them the issue they apologized and told him to come get a replacement he told them he left the state already. Now that he finally was in the area he went to get some food there and he told him this was the issue the owner was so rude to him and told him that he was lying and this will happens if you leave it out for a few days. Excuse me owner we have receipts for proof of purchase and place a call log of our complaint which was all under 12 Hours! Plus we are Indian and I think we know how to refrigerate our foods. Hence why we know you food is not fresh at all. And we will contact the food administration for feeding people beyond old food! I am surprised you guys are even business! I really wonder how many people have gotten food poisoning from this sorry excuse of a restaurant. FYI you are in a America! You cannot speak to your paying customers like you’re in India! Get rid of your village mentality and go take some customer...
