After watching a FB reel on Wilsall, and reading reviews of this restaurant, I was determined to try it out.
After getting off work early today, I decided to take the 3½ hour ride on my motorcycle down to Wilsall. It was a long beautiful ride. Amazing mountain views. I finally arrived in Wilsall and found the bar & restaurant at about 3:30p.
I walked in and was immediately greeted by 3 wonderful and energetic ladies who work at The Bank Bar & Vault Restaurant. I took a seat at a bar table, and ordered a delicious IPA from Outlaw Brewing. I looked over the menu and decided on a Wilsall Zinger burger, a Sweet Chili Chicken Taco, and a Blackened Fish Taco.
The Wilsall Zinger burger is a ⅓lb burger with their house pickled jalapeños, pepper jack cheese, and jalapeño aioli. Comes with delicious fries. Price is $13.25. I added some lettuce & tomato, and got the patty cooked slightly past rare. IT WAS PHENOMENAL!! Very impressed. Best burger in a looong time! Definitely recommend!
All the meat comes from a local rancher, a mile up the road. Farm to table meat. Muddy Creek Ranch is the local supplier.
The Sweet Chili Chicken Taco (2) is grilled chicken cooked with sweet chili sauce, in flour tortillas, with lettuce, tomato, and shredded cheese. Comes with chips & salsa. Price is $13.50. Absolutely delicious!! I recommend these!
The Blacked Fish Tacos (2) are fried, battered cod, tossed in a house made Cajun dry rub on top of their house made coleslaw, in a flour tortilla. Comes with chips & salsa. Price is $15.00. These were good, but not my favorite. Usually I love fish tacos, but I didn't love these.
For dessert, I ordered a slice of the Fresh Baked Fruit Forest pie. Has wild berries & rhubarb, I think. It's heated up and topped with Whip Cream. It was incredible!! I definitely recommend this pie.
I also ordered the Tropical Crepe Cake, which are thin slices of crepe filled with a tropical flavored cream. This dessert pastry was perfect! Soft yet flaky, sweet yet light & mellow, and mysteriously refreshing after all the food eaten before it. Fantastic dessert!
For dessert beverage, I ordered a Wilsall Watermelon Crawl cocktail. It is Whiskey, Watermelon Pucker, Lemonade, & Ginger Ale, and an orange slice on the rim. Very delicious and refreshing!
I was planning to order one of their famous steaks as well, but unfortunately was too full, so I'll have to come back and get one next time. Muddy Creek Ranch Steaks are part of entrees, which are only served after 5pm. I could have ordered one as it was about 5:25p when I finished everything, but my belly was full.
The atmosphere is very friendly & genuine, as small towns are. Great people. Decor is fantastic. A lot of country artwork, photography, statues/sculptures, and other western and bar decor.
When I arrived at 3:30, it was pretty quiet and not busy. As time passed and dinner time came, it got busier and slightly more noise, but at a calm social level.
If you're ever nearby, or even 3½+ hours away, I HIGHLY recommend stopping in for a bite or a drink. You won't be disappointed. You'll be glad you did!!! TRUST ME! The Bank Bar & Vault Restaurant is now one of my top favorite Montana bars & restaurants.
Thank you Bank Bar & Vault Restaurant for your hospitality and amazing food and drinks! I'll be back again...
Read moreEXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED! We should have known there was something off when we walked in on a Saturday afternoon (2:35) and the place was deserted. Even though there were two patrons in the bar and the only other table in the restaurant was just leaving, It still took more than 5 minutes to be greeted and get menus. We ordered a side of Onion Rings to share (good - but commercial ones from Sysco). I ordered a patty melt (medium rare and it was served very rare). This is my go to by which I judge all burger restaurants against and this was okay -- not juicy or tasty; simply okay The fries were hand cut and only warm - not hot. My husband ordered the Crazy MTN Dip sandwich - it was written up as their version of a French Dip with onions and cheese and it was OFF. The meat was a gray color and had no beefy flavor or taste; but the aftertaste was like meat that has sat a couple days too long in the fridge.and had started to turn bad but not quite moldy. He took a couple bites and we waited for the server to reappear but when he wasn't to be seen, he asked me to taste it. There was a NASTY smell to the sandwich and while I tried a small bite out of the uneaten half, it ended up spit out in my napkin; it almost tasted moldy.
I need to point out that the server checked with us about 2 minutes after setting down the food and at that time we had only tried the onion rings. He didn't come back until 20 minutes later when I FLAGGED him down. Again - NO OTHER PATRONS IN THE RESTAURANT. My husband had eaten about half of his sandwich by then because we were hungry and a part had been spit out into his napkin. When we finally got the servers attention, he took the plate away, came back and said he would write off one of the beers and when we further questioned the food, he said he would send out the manager.
15 minutes later, we had to find the waiter again and ask why the manager hadn't bothered to come chat with us. "Oh... I'll get her." was the reply. Which meant he hadn't asked her to talk to us prior to that.
ALL of this really reflected poorly on the restaurant, the staff, and on Muddy Creek Ranch Beef. Beef that cooks up gray on the outside is not PRIME beef - no matter what anyone says.
This was a food safety concern that was brushed aside. The manager was coldly polite but she accused us of having been in and complained before. (We had NEVER been there before and will NEVER go back). Even with mediocre food we never complain (or even ever write a bad review as I was raised with the motto of if you can't say anything good, don't say anything at all). However, this was POOR customer service and poor food quality at its peak. $40 for food that is OLD and NASTY is not a good value by anyone's standard.
Yes the restaurant, bar and restrooms were clean, but that is where the positives end (and it should be when there are no patrons). The cooks were too busy gossiping and flirting to worry about how to cook the food to meet the customer's request or even to curb the language used since the grill is right out in the restaurant for all to hear. Honestly, you can get a better burger at Wendy's than you can here. Save...
Read moreNice small town restaurant with good quality food and friendly service. Ribeye steak was cooked perfectly. Candied carrots and mashed potatoes with brown gravy was very good. The horseradish sauce for steak needs improvement bit was ok. The small dinner salad was nice. They sell local butchered meat and Italian sausage. The NY steaks looked good and the ground Italian sausage ingredients sounded good so I bought two steaks and two pounds of ground sausage. I'd come back but I live...
