Great food, Great service, and Great prices!
My wife came here two mornings in a row while camping nearby. As soon as I walked in, I knew I was in for a good time. This is an old fashion style café. The kind that makes you feel right at home. A song from Kris Kristofferson was playing, and next up was Marty Robbins. I knew the words to every song that was played during our whole stay there. The first time this has ever happened at any restaurant.
The menu prices were shockingly low for breakfast, considering how much everything has gone up in the last four years. Most breakfast plates were under $10. The food was good and fresh and there was plenty of it. But the Biscuits! Let me tell you about the Biscuits. I am a southerner, and my mom is a soul food expert. Biscuits and gravy are a way of life for us. The biscuits at the Dam Grill are hands down the best biscuits I have ever tasted in my life. So light and fluffy that they melt in your mouth. If you ever eat here and do not try them, you do not love yourself. LOL!
The service was equally great. We got to know all the server ladies. When they found that my wife and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and were looking for things to do in the area, they all came up and offered advice and told us about some local places of interest. They were so friendly.
When we came back the next day, we were treated like hometown locals that had been coming there our whole lives. They called by name and once again took the time to find about how we were enjoying our time in the area and offer advice.
It is seldom today in this age that you are made to feel right at home as a tourist in a new town, but the ladies at The Dam Grill made us feel that way. Thank you ladies for making our time there special.
Oh, did I mention the biscuits? You have...
Read moreIt’s been a while since we’ve given The Dam Grill a chance not to screw up breakfast. But once again, they proved us wrong: nothing has improved … in fact, it may have gotten worse! If you figure there’s not much to screw up with a simple, 4 element egg plate, you too would be wrong! Egg ordered over medium, received over hard. Texas toast dry and cold - just the way people like their toast, certainly. (Also not sure it was Texas toast - the preparation was not.) Sausage patty my fork couldn’t sever into a bite. Butter for the cold toast was cold, too. Hash browns, to their credit, I do have to give them credit were crisped in both sides, even if the portion was about 1/3 that it should be (tariffs influence, no doubt). Orange ‘juice’ that was either old or a powdered mix?! Awful!
After tossing various theories around we landed on the most likely: everything but the eggs prepared in advance and kept under a warming light explains … well, some of it.
Atypically there were only two cars in the parking lot on this beautiful Sunday morning, but they only serve breakfast until 10:30- another head-scratcher that has prompted us to go elsewhere in the past.
Unfortunately we’re back to seeking out other breakfast places bc of the quality of food (or...
Read moreReally nice waitress. She was friendly and quick. The food is good. I ordered the chopped steak with gravy, okra, mashed potatoes, and a house salad. The ranch dressing was really good. So was the gravy. The chopped steak was kinda tough to cut. I did order it extremely well done, but it's just hamburger meat. It's not an actual steak, so I don't believe it should have been that tough when cutting. It had good flavor, though. I thought the price for the club sandwich was absolutely outrageous. Thought it had to be a typo. It was $12.95. The online menu is a year old. It says $10.95. I just think that's high for a sandwich. Someone from our table ordered one, and I didn't see anything special about the sandwich to justify the price. The rest of the prices are decent and expected with what we've dealt with over the last 4 years of price hikes and inflation. All around, it's definitely worth stopping in and trying out. Clean restaurant. Looks bigger on the inside than...
