Depending on what area of The United States you live in, we all tend to gage Mexican food with a biased palet. What people think is great Mexican food in Topeka Kansas might not be at all what people who live in Chicago think. Same goes with several varieties of food throughout the KC metropolitan area.
El Porto Mexican Cafe has a taste of it's own and I don't mean that in a bad way at all. Having been to two locations I am definitely happier with the location in Louisburg. One of the best things about this place is everything doesn't taste like everything else. At some "Mexican” restaurants the Taco meat is the same as it is in the burrito, flautas, or enchiladas, here each item has its own distinctive flavor. My favorite being La Gloria Chimichanga, topped with sour cream, Monterey Jack cheese, stuffed with chicken and perfectly seasoned chorizo. 🔥🔥 FIRE!! 🔥🔥
Also, I hate going out to spots where you get a chuck of mystery gristle in your dish, I know it sometimes happens, but if it happens 2 or 3 times I'm out. If you have that fear I've been here several times and I've never had any so far. Had chicken, beef taco, chorizo, pork and shredded beef, all with great food textures.
Bathrooms are clean and the restaurant itself is generally clean as well. They have no problem servicing larger tables either. Give it a try and leave a review for me...
Read moreThe food is delicious, but a bit spicier than I like. There are HUGE portions, so you definitely get your money's worth. The night we ate here, they had regular flavored margaritas 2/$5. Other flavors were regularly priced. The watermelon margarita had NO watermelon flavor whatsoever. All I could taste was well tequila. I couldn't even drink it. I did not try to send it back. We had called ahead for a party of eight and were pleasantly surprised to find our table already set up with chips and salsa placed in advance. The salsa, as well as the chips, were amazing! The queso blanco dip was fantastic. Our waitress was phenomenal, and we made sure she knew her incredible service was much appreciated, both with our words, as well as our tip. We had a 10 year old and a seven year old with us and she made sure they had everything they needed, as well. Many restaurants do not pay a lot of attention to the needs of the children, waiting for the parents to do it, but she was exceptional in her interaction with the kids and making sure they were happy with their food, too. She did a...
Read moreI stopped here on my way home from Springfield and was not disappointed!
The food: they come out with chips and salsa (the norm) but also dropped off a small thing of queso! That was a nice surprise :) ...I had the shrimp street tacos with black beans and rice. Lots of flavor in all aspects of the meal. Nothing was dull or unseasoned. And the portions were huge! I could have shared that meal and I took half of it home.
Drinks: anytime I try a new Mexican restaurant, I go for the house margarita. If they don't do that right, I don't trust anything else. I had two people make me the two margaritas I had. They both tasted the same! Seems like a small thing but consistency is key imo. Knowing you'll get a good drink no matter who is working is a big deal. The margaritas were fresh tasting, not syrupy but very light and delicious.
Overall a great experience! From the greeters at the front, to the servers and managers, everyone is friendly and helpful....
