I am almost 70 and this was the WORST dining experience I have ever had.
First of all, we were forced to eat outside. There were 11 of us. The organizer of our group made reservations and followed up confirming multiple times. During none of these conversations was she told that we must be seated outdoors with a group this size, nor was she told that 4 was the minimum number to be on a single check. Do you know how many people no longer carry cash. This caused much confusion.
We nicely talked to the manager, Alexis, and asked her to make an exception as we were not aware and many in the group intended on paying with a credit card. She told us she was the one responsible for that rule and she wasn't changing it.
As my hands were already bloody from swatting mosquitos before we ordered, I only ordered a bowl of gumbo so my hands would not be touching anything going in my mouth.
In Louisiana, you should be able to get a good bowl of gumbo everywhere. Gumbo is made with Roux. Roux is brown. This had a reddish cast to it. I put my spoon in it and there was only about 1/2" of liquid in the bowl. I had 1 sliver of sausage. I pulled the spoon to the edge of the bowl and there was only enough chicken and rice to fill the spoon. There was less than a tablespoon of chicken and rice. I asked another at our table if I was being too picky or should I send it back or just let it be and her reply was "Hell No".
We had to ask 2 different waitresses to get our server. She did not come out for about 10 minutes. She offered to get me another bowl, but at that time, the others in our party were well into their meals. I did not eat.
When she brought the checks, I needed to pay with a card. We waited, and waited, and waited. Finally, everyone in our party could not get devoured by the mosquitos a minute longer. They had no mosquito control at all.
I put the passengers riding with me in the car and went in the restaurant to retrieve my card. Our server said she handed it to me. I told her she did not and she raised her voice to me. I raised my voice to her and told her she did not. She cursed me and with a raised voice told me I took it out of her hand. At this point, I raised my voice and told her she did not. The entire restaurant was aware of the situation now. I told her to find my credit card or I was calling the police. She was adamant that she was correct.
If she had a different attitude and said, she was fairly sure she handed it to me or might she have accidentally given it to another in our party, I might not be posting this review.
The bartender asked me my name and said my card had gotten put behind the bar with a bar tab. Nobody at our table had anything from the bar.
When we were first talking to the manager about splitting the bills, I asked her if she understood how important a good online reputation is these days for any business. This can make our break a business. Her response was that she really didn't care.
This establishment has a no smoking or vaping policy. Be aware this only applies to guests. I saw multiple employees vaping and a waitress vaping delivering food to a table.
I was not the only person in our party with food that was inedible. Save yourself the drive, the risk of West Nile or other mosquito transmitted disease, the disappointment of bad food, and...
Read moreI'll start off by saying that we have ate at the commissary many times before and everything was excellent. Yesterday we took some friends that has never been. We raved about how great the place was. Now it was 6pm on a Saturday night. I expected it to be busy. We were seated as soon as we got there. After about 10 mins our drink orders were taken and appetizers. It was about 45mins later before our meal order was taken. When waitress was taking our meal order I asked about the appetizers. She replied that we didn't have an order! Said she could put it in at that time. Told her never our meal should be out soon , boy was I wrong. I ordered the shrimp etouffee. When it came out it was room temperature if not cooler. The rice was more like a tapioca pudding , mushy. I asked the waitress if they had a microwave in the kitchen. She said yes do i need to warm it up? She took the plate and returned about 5 minutes later. It was warmer , but I wouldn't say it was hot. On the menu the etouffee came with garlic bread. Did not receive any with the meal. I asked the waitress if the etouffee came with garlic bread. Her response was " yes I can bring you some if you like ". My thinking is it should of came out with the meal. This was a 2.5 hour "meal experience" that I cannot say was a good...
Read moreMy brother and I have eaten at this establishment many times while he attended college at NSU. Nothing bad to say about the food at all. However, we did reserve a table for our whole family to dine there after his graduation. When we arrived at the restaurant party (12), we were seated next to one of the owners (Sylvia) who just so happened to be drinking at a table with a few of her lady friends. We had toddlers with us who were playing and making a little noise. So the owner stepped away from her table and proceeded to approach one of her employees to inform us that a certain toy wasn’t allowed in the building… No problem at all. The toy was placed outside back into the car. The ladies finally finished their drinking and decided to leave. Upon leaving, one of the owner's lady friends decides to stop on her way out the door and ask my grandma a super inappropriate question… As the owner heads into the kitchen smiling, about 2 minutes later, the cooks come to the entrance of the dining room door and start smiling and pointing at our table as the owner continues to laugh at our table. We decided to pay for the appetizers we ate and the drinks that we drank and left this establishment extremely disappointed and a graduation...
