My family has gone to this place for years!! Tonight I went to pick up dinner and was very disappointed. I walked in and went straight to the register. There was one other person there checking out. Well I noticed after I got to the counter, about 5-6 more people came to the counter. After the cashier checked out 2 customers in that crowd, I politely asked her do I need to go get at the end of that line even though I was here first. She looked at me and replied yes!!! I looked at her very upset, but I did go to the end of that line when I should have just left that building. After getting my food, I told the other lady that I need to see the manager. Instead of sending the manager to me, she sent the same rude cashier to me. I was told the manager was in a meeting at 7:00pm at night. Let's just say that I did not get to see the manager. After getting home, I called back at 8:15pm to speak to the manager. The manager came to the phone and after I told her what happened, she sat quietly on the phone and say she don't know what to say!! At this point I'm livid, because as a manager I know she should have said something. Her quietness definitely made my mind up!! it's very sad to say, but I WILL NEVER RETURN......Why pay to get disrespected? Not here, it won't happen!!!! This is not the first time. This has happened twice before but I just overlooked it, but...

I found this restaurant by accident approximately a month or so ago while looking for something on Google maps. I decided to come and try the restaurant out. The food was great, food was hot and the service was fast. Your sides were great, a little different from my experiences in the past with other fish restaurants. (I usually go to Mississippi to a huge fish house named Berry's Seafood owned by one of my friends from my school or I drive to Manchac, LA to Middendorf's. These 2 places are worth the drive, however) The service here was absolutely exceptional. Karen, (definitely not one of the bad ones, LOL) was the best waitress I've encountered in years. She was so welcoming and inviting and really seemed like an actual caring waitress. She was like a breath of fresh air. She should be a treasured employee for this establishment. I hope they definitely take care of her here and never take her for granted. Waitresses like her are the face of your business for restaurants like this and they interact the most with your customers. Take care of her and I...

I will NEVER visit this restaurant again. We usually go to Jan's at least twice a month however last night was disturbing. My friend and I arrived at 9:15 pm. The hostess seated us even though she seem irritated by our presence. Once we were seated, we sat there for at least 10 minutes being ignored and not even given water or silverware while staff was sweeping the floor around us. My friend decided to go up to the register and ask could we get served. The lady at the counter said that she would "handle it". Of course nothing happened and we finally left after sitting for at least 15 minutes with ot even a glass of water. We got up and left and, of course, no one noticed. I called back from the parking lot as we were driving off and asked for the manager. The lady that answered the phone said that she was the manager. When I told her what happened, she said "oh I am sorry when did you come in". I said that we were the couple that just walked out. She said "oh" That was the end of the...

My experience at Jan's River Restaurant was just ok. We ate here for the first time on a Saturday evening, place was very crowded, you have to give your name for seating, which took about 35-40mins. After getting seated the server brings out raw onion, cup of beans, coleslaw, target sauce, and hushpuppies for starters. We ordered seafood platters that come with fish filets, whole cat fish, shrimp, frog leg, oysters, and mostly fries. The taste of the food was ok, nothing special compared to the many seafood platters I've had. Some food items were a touch overcooked and some a little under cooked. The service was good, but that's where I seen the biggest flaw in this place not enough servers and cleaners. They were all rushing and flying around with little production. The restaurant itself could use some upgrades as well, especially the ceiling, carpet, and mostly bathrooms. For the price and amount of food you get is not worth it to me.

I used to frequent this place back in the 80’s. The catfish was warm, the okra was cold, the coleslaw tasted like straight vinegar. We watched bunches of people served way before we got served and they came in way after us. I like sweet tea, but not syrup. The tables are perfectly good tables but are yellowed from the original sponsors, kinda nostalgic, but would rather see clean new tables. The chairs were wobbly and sticky. And oh my gosh… the bathroom door 🤦‍♀️, I needed to wash my hands on the outside of the door after using the bathroom. It very obvious they make so much money as is, they feel as though they don’t need to update. It’s also very apparent they are subpar at cleaning. Maybe they should take a lesson from Chick Fil A on what a clean restaurant looks like. Nope… I won’t be back.

Driving up to Jan's we thought we were in the wrong place but we saw people walking in so we went in as well. The best decision ever. After being greeted they layer out what we could only call a typical Southern table. We got hush puppies, cold slaw, green tomato relish, an onion slice, lemon slices, bean soup and tartar sauce. All were delicious. For our meals we ordered the 16oz marinaded ribeye steak and a baked potato and the grilled catfish and fries. So much food and so good. Even had enough for dinner the next night. Such amazingly great food!! We also appreciated the great service we received from the staff.
