I want to share a recent experience. Six of us went out to celebrate a milestone birthday. We went to dinner and decided to visit the Tav. Everything was great. We were drinking and having a wonderful time. My wife and son-in-law were playing darts and all was good. We had noticed that one of the bartenders, Kelly, looked like she was having a bad night. She had RBF all evening but it didn't have any effect on us because we were going to Sequoia, who is absolutely awesome. Out of nowhere, Kelly walks up and cards my son-in-law. He wasn't even drinking at the time that she walked up but he had been earlier. In fact, Sequoia carded him at the bar and gave him the all clear. He is about to turn 23. He hands her his I.D. and she walks off with it. He continues to play darts without a care because he is legitimately 22, about to be 23. She sends security over to tell him he has to leave because it is a fake I.D. We talked to security and explained the situation and he said it was out of his hands but he would go talk to her.
Kelly returns with the I.D. and is aggressively yelling that it is fake because the government says so. What? We tried to explain to her that we have known him since he was a child and it isn't a fake I.D. She is completely rude to everyone to the point that things are getting out of hand. The six of us pay our tab and walk outside. The police are outside dealing with a drunk person and we wanted to have them scan his I.D. but they had their hands full with the other guy. We spoke to the owner, Rusty, and he told us that he believed us but he must defer to the bartender. I truly understand because I have friends that own bars and they do the same thing.
I googled best apps to check I.D.'s and I called my friend that owns bars to ask what they use. After downloading several apps and scanning his I.D. the next day, they all showed valid and of age. I have no idea what happened or why Kelly took this stance. With her abysmal attitude, I can't believe Rusty keeps her but I guess it is hard to find people to do a good job. That is also why we have seen her bartending at many different locations around town. My guess is they get tired of her nonsense and she moves on to the next location.
Lastly, The Tav is one of my favorite places historically. What I will tell you is that a person like that will ruin a business. When you have six people just sitting and drinking in your bar enjoying the atmosphere and each other's company and someone randomly throws a grenade in the middle of it for seemingly no reason, it is a very bad deal. I wish I would have asked her to scan the I.D. in front of me but I didn't think about it. Her yelling that the government said it was fake threw me off of my game a little. If I ever have someone acting a fool again, I will think of that. I look forward to returning to the bar when she has moved on to...
Read moreI got carryout for my dad and 5 others on Father's day and spent about $78 with tip. Half of the order was completely burnt and overcooked even though there were only 5 people sitting at the bar and no other patrons. My step mom got sliders which were okay and my wifes chicken sandwich was actually good but my dad got the fried bologna sandwich and it was solid black and crispy, the kids and my chicken fingers were so overcooked we couldn't eat it- rock hard and dark brown. I didn't check my order before I left which I should have, just carried it out, took it to my dad's boat, and saw how bad it was. We just made deli sandwiches instead but I went back to get some of my order refunded since my kids and dad already threw theirs in the trash. They asked why I was returning my order 2 hrs after I picked up and I let them know I wasn't going to waste an hour returning the food when I'm trying to spend fathers day with my dad. I showed them the food and they removed one order from my ticket. Won't be going back since it was such a terrible first time experience. You would think, even if the cook burnt the food, the bartender packing it up would notice and not send it out. Hopefully i was a one off and others have a...
Read moreWe enjoyed our recent visit to Harrods Creek Tavern. I wouldn't say it compares to my favorite pubs and taverns in Louisville, but we don't have many options on River Road and in Prospect. Overall the menu is pretty good, staff were friendly, service was good, food was served hot. Most sandwich items seemed average, with the exception of the fish sandwich which appeared to have been freshly battered and fried. French fries weren't anything too special, but onion rings were large and fresh. Only major complaints were that some of the tables hadn't been cleaned completely and the noise level was very high even during a non-peak time. We've been frequenting Cunningham's, their neighboring restaurant, for over a decade and I would challenge Harrods Creek Tavern to develop unique (or objectively better) menu rivals to Cunninghams. Currently, I can't say that I prefer any restaurant on River Road, and when I want a tavern I'm still going to take the extra time to...
