Okay the first thing I want to say is I want to manage expectations here with this particular review. When we visited the restaurant we were visiting it for my wife's birthday we usually go to Joe's Crab shack in louisville. We are from Indianapolis so it's a good ride down to go. Someone had told us they had really good seafood here and we should try it. We arrived thinking we were going into an upscale restaurant that served more of a gourmet style seafood. Now this is not meant to be an insult. What we found was more of a drive-in type atmosphere where plastic silverware is used and things are served in paper trays and plates. Now that's not a bad thing if you're expecting it. The night we came down we went through an area that wasn't the best area in the world but once we got to the restaurant it was a nice area. The facility is very large I would say it's at least three acres and has a separate building for parties. Has a lot of outdoor dining for good weather even a two child's playgrounds and I really thought it looked really looked neat. One thing I would have done is not chose here for this particular tripp. It is definitely loved by the locals we got there it was not very packed but by the time 5:00 p.m. rolled around this place was solid with people. I do believe we hit it on a very off night. I wanted to try the turtle soup and it was not ready so I couldn't get any. The waiter was a nice guy but we barely saw him I asked him questions and never got answers he'd always go to look for him and never come back. We bought the most expensive thing on the menu we both bought a seafood dinner it was about $40 each and they contain a lot of fish nuggets to fish I believe they were perch or possibly cod. We got fish nuggets, we got hush puppies that were the size of baseballs. We received oyster and a couple of scallops. Now just going from there I say we hit it off tonight because this guy wasn't the best waiter and the whole order is deep fried one thing you need to know everything you get there is deep fried. Okay to start with the batter had not been season and it made everything very bland. Unfortunately it picked up all the taste of the oil in the oil taste like it hasn't been changed in a couple of years. When I set my fish to the side for more room in the plate I set them on a napkin that quickly turned a yellowish Brown from the oil being leeched out of the fish. Even when we took them home and put them in an air fryer we still got oil on the fryer. Now the onion rings were the biggest I've ever seen and I'm allergic to onions so I couldn't really eat them but my wife got this look like 2 lb oil-soaked pile of onion rings and they say they're legendary they were very soggy and the breading would not stay on to these for no amount of. Money. The oysters had a very rough life they were dark on the inside and were kind of chewy. Matter of fact most of the seafood order have been overcooked in a lot of it were very chewy. Unfortunately for us the two favorite platters were the fresh sliced tomatoes my wife got and I had a cup of pickles although I found it a bit unique that the cup I got was like a very large condiment cup with pickles in it that were just plain Dill sliced pickles I got charged almost $3 for the cup of pickles. The cottage cheese was very good and I believe the fish will you take the battery off of it and it's fresh it's probably a lot better. I thought the cocktail sauce was a bit heavy on the horseradish and I really couldn't eat that I like hot things but I don't like that. I thought the tartar sauce was okay but it wasn't anything I would write home about. Having said all that we kind of threw away most of our order when we got at home other than the fish fillet we tried to heat up in the air fryer. I will say this if you're looking for the drive-in sort of dinner this isn't bad and I'm sure there was other stuff that was a lot better I think they were being pushed because the amount of people and I think it was an off night. I do believe next year's birthday will return to Joe's Crab

We have always loved this place!!! I use to live in this area Valley Station so when we went there I was young way back then maybe in the 60s I have alot of memories of Mike Linings My dad would always get Turtle Soup My Grandpa would get 1/2 or a whole Chicken I've always liked seafood fish was the bomb and still is I do love Shrimp clams and onion rings but yesterday was Sunday lunch time and y'all were out of onion rings out of cherry coke tea was aweful tasted like it was the bottom of the barrel Also the clams were so tuff I couldn't even chew them!!! And to top it all off they said that I couldn't get the drink I love Strawberry Daiquiri only beer bc that's all y'all had!!! I don't know anyone who likes this favorite place for it was the last day y'all were open and not to have Onion Rings How could y'all just be complete out of the best onion rings ever!!! I have only had maybe 2 other times that I had to complain bc I'm just not like that but for yesterday November 7th 2021 the last day for y'all being out of so much I really wanted to scream but I kept my cool!!! But when we were pulling out of the parking lot I was really disappointed about it all!!! This just tells me that y'all don't care about all of your favorite customers that spent lots and lots of our hard earned money for you to be out of so many foods just to be let down All bc this was your last day until next year!!! Come on guys you can do better than that!!! I feel like we need to be replaced on what we spent yesterday $45 dollars

Finding out the history of this place was amazing to see! I heard so many great things and was so was excited to take my grandmother and family on a Friday night. I noticed that most of the guests are a bit older but the outdoor sitting area looked inviting to all age groups. The inside was overcrowded so it was confusing trying to figure out how to get full service as the lines 3 for the bar, self service, and full service merged into each other. After accidentally ordering in self service, we were told we could be seated in that same area to dine so I asked if it could be changed to full service so that we could sit near the open windows. That required manager approval and the waiters didn't seem to happy about us switching over. They did seem to be slightly short staffed on waiters but it took an hour for our food to arrive and the food wasn't hot. Our grandmother was under the impression that they served perch so ordered salmon with cole slaw and hush puppies instead. We ordered our t-bone steaks medium-well but they were beyond well-done and tough to eat (especially with plastic forks since they do not provide steak knives). There wasn't any options to add cheese or bacon to our baked potatoes and house salads. The food was so bland, I took home and added my own cheese lol. The kids enjoyed their chicken nuggets, fries, and onion rings.

Very good fried cod and generous portions. Hushpuppies had good flavor and were about 2” in diameter. Clams were good and large portion as well. Fries are just average. Baked fish was tasty with a little lemon-pepper. Tartar sauce was just okay. Premade and in little portions. I prefer the jalapeño tartar sauce at The Fish House. While the portions are very large (3 large pieces of fish for fish platter) the prices are also quite high especially for sides like onion rings or Hushpuppies. Onion rings were large but batter was falling off and in my opinion Kingfish has the best onion rings in town. Expect to bring home leftovers. What really distracted from our overall five-star experience was at that food came out lukewarm at best and we had to send a couple of things back to be reheated. While the fish and fries were warm, I expected them to be hot which is much better when you’re dealing with fried foods. I deducted one star. I will go back at a future date most likely. It is not close to just about any thing and was about a 35 minute drive. At one time they were at the State Fair but have not been there for a few years now. Whether you’re dine in or take out everything is served on paper or plastic plates with plastic cups etc..

The first time I came to Mike Linnig’s in the 70’s I felt like I had found Nirvana. There were motorcycle riders, families and all sorts of people enjoying the small screened in eating areas outside and delicious fish. All kinds of people in a fun setting eating delicious fish. Well they have remodeled a bit .. no more tiny screened eating areas but lots and lots of picnic tables under a lot of big old trees. Still all kinds of people enjoying the wonderful setting and very good fish. Our experience last night was good with a few hiccups. We got the fish sandwich with 2 huge pieces of fish and split it plus very expensive onion rings. The fish was very good but the onion rings were a fail! Over cooked and huge.. but not with $8.00. They were hard and the batter came off of them before you could eat them . We ate outside since that is the most fun part . We ate at a picnic table that had dirty dishes at the other end and no one ever came to clean it up. There was no garbage can we saw that didn’t have stuff stacked on the top. It is self service outside so you would hope that would help with the server shortage. All in all .. it was fine..but we would only do it once a year on a really nice night.
