Okay the first thing I want to say is I want to manage expectations here with this particular review. When we visited the restaurant we were visiting it for my wife's birthday we usually go to Joe's Crab shack in louisville. We are from Indianapolis so it's a good ride down to go. Someone had told us they had really good seafood here and we should try it. We arrived thinking we were going into an upscale restaurant that served more of a gourmet style seafood. Now this is not meant to be an insult. What we found was more of a drive-in type atmosphere where plastic silverware is used and things are served in paper trays and plates. Now that's not a bad thing if you're expecting it. The night we came down we went through an area that wasn't the best area in the world but once we got to the restaurant it was a nice area. The facility is very large I would say it's at least three acres and has a separate building for parties. Has a lot of outdoor dining for good weather even a two child's playgrounds and I really thought it looked really looked neat. One thing I would have done is not chose here for this particular tripp. It is definitely loved by the locals we got there it was not very packed but by the time 5:00 p.m. rolled around this place was solid with people. I do believe we hit it on a very off night. I wanted to try the turtle soup and it was not ready so I couldn't get any. The waiter was a nice guy but we barely saw him I asked him questions and never got answers he'd always go to look for him and never come back. We bought the most expensive thing on the menu we both bought a seafood dinner it was about $40 each and they contain a lot of fish nuggets to fish I believe they were perch or possibly cod. We got fish nuggets, we got hush puppies that were the size of baseballs. We received oyster and a couple of scallops. Now just going from there I say we hit it off tonight because this guy wasn't the best waiter and the whole order is deep fried one thing you need to know everything you get there is deep fried. Okay to start with the batter had not been season and it made everything very bland. Unfortunately it picked up all the taste of the oil in the oil taste like it hasn't been changed in a couple of years. When I set my fish to the side for more room in the plate I set them on a napkin that quickly turned a yellowish Brown from the oil being leeched out of the fish. Even when we took them home and put them in an air fryer we still got oil on the fryer. Now the onion rings were the biggest I've ever seen and I'm allergic to onions so I couldn't really eat them but my wife got this look like 2 lb oil-soaked pile of onion rings and they say they're legendary they were very soggy and the breading would not stay on to these for no amount of. Money. The oysters had a very rough life they were dark on the inside and were kind of chewy. Matter of fact most of the seafood order have been overcooked in a lot of it were very chewy. Unfortunately for us the two favorite platters were the fresh sliced tomatoes my wife got and I had a cup of pickles although I found it a bit unique that the cup I got was like a very large condiment cup with pickles in it that were just plain Dill sliced pickles I got charged almost $3 for the cup of pickles. The cottage cheese was very good and I believe the fish will you take the battery off of it and it's fresh it's probably a lot better. I thought the cocktail sauce was a bit heavy on the horseradish and I really couldn't eat that I like hot things but I don't like that. I thought the tartar sauce was okay but it wasn't anything I would write home about. Having said all that we kind of threw away most of our order when we got at home other than the fish fillet we tried to heat up in the air fryer. I will say this if you're looking for the drive-in sort of dinner this isn't bad and I'm sure there was other stuff that was a lot better I think they were being pushed because the amount of people and I think it was an off night. I do believe next year's birthday will return...
Read moreFirst off let me say that I have bern going there since I was a baby (now 57), so has my sister and my mom over 60 years and never once had a problem until today.
Tomorrow is my mom's 80th birthday and she wanted to treat everyone to dinner at this restaurant. My sister got there around 12 and they sat her a tables that held around 19 people. My mom and I arrived around 1. My niece, her husband and their 2 children (2 years and an infant) dove up from caneyville, my nephew and his girlfriend from bullit County, my brother in law and sister. Around 1:30 or so we ordered our drinks.
The waitress came and told us we had to move because a party of 20 or 25 was coming and they had reservations. We said no because my mom has mobility issues ( alot of falls lately and walking with a walker), she is also in afib really bad along with other major health issues, and the table was decorated for her birthday. She said that we shouldn't if bern say at that table. Where they wanted us to move to had a step or two to walk down. My mom can't do steps because she probably would fall.
Then the manager came over and told us if we didn't move we would have to leave. We again told her no. We asked her icvtge party coming in could move where they wanted us to move to. She said no if you all don't move then you will have to leave.
We never received our drinks and never was given the opportunity to order our food. So we did decide to leave and as we were leaving I got to talk to one of the owners. I believe her name was Nancy. She acted like she didn't care. My mom was talking to her also and my mom started crying.
This is so disheartening. Why would you treat an elderly person that has mobility issues that went for her birthday to be with her family at a place that she and everyone else that loves their fish like that.
So we went to a local restaurant (mom and pop) bur when we got to this other restaurant my sisters blood sugar was dropping so fast cause she hadn't eaten and she is a pancreatic cancer survivor that had the Whipple surgery that doesn't have much of a pancreas.
So Mike Linnig's you have lost long time diners at your...
Read moreSo I hadn't been here in years, but 8 of us went after a day at Churchill downs for my mother's birthday. It was a Saturday so the lines inside and out were long. People in front of us ended up leaving after standing there for close to an hour and seeing how terrible the service was by the servers. I hadn't been paying attention, just noticed servers coming in and out of the kitchen picking up orders. But when we sat down and finally had someone take our drink order, we told her that we were got and thirsty so she would be on top of the game, I didn't realize that after we got cups with the first drink we could go serve ourselves and the waiter doesn't tell you that. So if you're new, you know. But there were things we needed after finally getting our food that we had to inquire about after about an hour. I got a shrimp cocktail, it was really good, shrimp were huge. Funny thing is that I like to have a lemon 🍋 to squeeze on my seafood, and I was told when I ordered my half and half tea that they didn't have lemons but, lemon juice packets were available, I was disappointed. But when my shrimp came guess what was on my plate, a fresh lemon 🍋 wedge!!!! The portions of fish that you get on a sandwich is enough to share and we did, but it wasn't done enough for me. I don't like liquid running out of my fish and it made the crust soft. The teens said they gator was pretty good. Onion rings delicious. Baked potato good. They were out of strawberry cheesecake so we got a piece of key lime pie for mom and everybody in the dinning room sang happy birthday with us which was fun. You could barley taste lime in the pie and it had an old taste.. after dinner we all walked outside and up the damn. They've added some new buildings and more tables outside since it's been there last. I'm in no...
