This was our First visit on a last minute decision after 8pm. The establishment closes the food service at 10pm. So we arrive at almost 8:30 and had a bit of a wait. (Not too long though considering how busy they were). We were able to procure a seat at the inside bar while we waited, and enjoyed a good local Beer from Cape May Breweries called the Bog, and a new one from Hoop Tea called Sea Isle Iced Tea. After 2 of those served by a very Friendly Bar staff our table was ready, which they informed us by text.
We then moved to our waitresses care and Well informed hands. She took the time to tell us everything about the menu's options as well as the specials for the day including the things she regretted to inform us they were sadly out of this evening.
After ordering and not waiting too long for our meal choices to arrive, we had the pleasure of being satisfied with a very well prepared meal! Well! At least my meal was! I had the Pan seared Scallop with a Beurre Blanc drizzle, served with Home made mashed potatoes and a perfectly tender cooked Asparagus. My love on the other hand had the TBLT Sandwich served with Fries. Her sandwich although a very good sized portion was rather dissapointing! There was only 1 small slice of fried green tomato on that huge sandwich, and the Cold cut turkey left a lot to be desired! It would have definitely been much more enjoyable if there were at minimum 2 more slices of tomato, and a better brand of turkey, or just cook it in house and slice it down.
The Atmosphere was sublime utilizing a cross between Beach meets Romantic, with a varied decor, only being out done with the poor seating choice. Very uncomfortable seating. For an individual who has circulatory issues, a bad back, as well as a bit overweight, the seating will cause severe discomfort.
Overall the entire Staff was extremely pleasant and served well all visitors. Friendly and caring.
We will return in the future, although we will definitely be bringing a cushion with us for the seating. Kid and Pet friendly as well. Lets not forget the beautiful views overlooking the Delaware Bay!...
Read morei have been going here for well over a decade, when it was Whalers Cove, despite all the changes in ownership, as loyal patrons to the atmosphere and food. However, tonight I was appalled by the managers behavior. I ordered a 'house made crab cake sandwich' for $14, even pointed to it on the menu to the waitress. She asked what two sides I wanted and I didn't think twice. She had already admitted it was a new menu and she even didn't know where the sides were listed. I didn't think much until my food arrived and it was the crab cake platter. I told her it wasn't what I ordered, but it was already 10pm, so I agreed to eat it anyway. However, then the bill came and I was being charged $26 for the platter. I told her I had not agreed to ordering the platter, that I had pointed to my order on the menu so I expected it to have been correct and I would not pay the $26. She went to the manager and came back saying they would not remove it due to my having agreed to ordering two sides, which apparently wasn't part of the sandwich order. However, if the waitress didn't even understand the menu, how could I? My sister requested she bring the manager who then said "okay I'll take it off" while reaching across the table, opening my leftover take out container and swiping it off the table while saying "and I'll take this too" before disappearing. We couldn't even respond as we were all shocked by her childish actions. Now I'm just left to wonder, what the heck is she doing with that leftover crabcake?
Edit: A member of my party attempted to resolve this matter with the owner who then responded with accusations that were incorrect. It was clear to us that the manager had created a false interpretation of these events and relayed it to the owner. Upon our explanation that the managers series of events was inaccurate the owner responded by insisting that they would be siding by their manager. Clearly this establishment no longer cares about treating customers fairly and would rather support a manager that blanantly lies for her...
Read moreDining along the Delaware Bay, it doesn't get much better than this. Stopped in on a Saturday night in the summer with a party of 5 and told about a 35-40 minute wait which was spot on. The had a decent beer men which was a great start to the meal.
For an appatizer, we ordered the foot tall panko crusted onion rings. The onion rings were served stacked in a tower and were tasty and came with a chipolte ranch which added a nice touch.
I ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken (Double-fried Chicken Breast, topped with House Slaw, Tangy Pickles & House-made Nashville Hot Sauce on a Farmhouse Roll ) which was delicious.
Other member of my dining party ordered the Beyond Burger (one of the few items for vegetarians), a regular burger, House-Made Broiled Crab Cake Sandwich (With Lettuce, Tomato & Tartar Sauce on Brioche) and the Roasted Chicken (Half chicken, dusted with All-American BBQ Rub & roasted to crispy perfection)
All members enjoyed our dinners, left stuffed, and were members of the clean plate club.
One thing that made this meal go from ordinary to extraordinary was the view. As our dinner ended, the sun was setting along the Delaware Bay. While no sunsets are ever alike, this evening sunset was pretty cool.
While service may have been a little slower than I like, in this day and age where it is difficult for restaurant to find employees who want to work, I realize that it would not be fair to hold that against them becuae it is clearly not their fault when everyone wants to dine out, yet people may not want to work. Overall, a great spot and will be a spot that I will be returning to...
