Good Tex-Mex cuisine and plenty of it. Montelongos is quite a popular in Lubbock. It is difficult to go here when you won't have to wait for a seat. After four tries and going somewhere else because of the ling wait, I finally got a table at Montelongos. To be honest, it was not what I expected. I thought that a place that is so popular, must be bring something unique to the table. What I found was just the same Tex-Mex menu you will find at one of more than a hundred other Lubbock Tex-Mex restaurant. Now, I am not big on Tex-Mex. There is Nothing special about it. It is just a mixture of the same exact ingredients in different shapes, with cheese, beans and ground meat being the main ingredients. In this respect, Montelongos tows the line. It is not worst Tex-Mex I have eaten by far. It's not best either. But it is good Tex-Mex without a doubt. Tex-Mex is simple and hard to mess up.
Montelongos does offer a couple things like Menudo that would fall outside of the Tex-Mex genre, but it pretty much is just a Tex-Mex restaurant. They do have a live music band and that is unique. Their portions are...
Read moreI haven’t been here in a while but felt like a meal from my child hood. My crispy taco , enchilada with beans and rice were on point . I’m usually a breakfast guy at this restaurant but mom and I decided to get an early dinner.. I asked for a crispy taco , beef enchilada , rice and beans .. I like that they do not over spice the food because I like adding salsa , salt and pepper on my own to make my meal how I like it. The restaurant was clean and atmosphere was calm and relaxing.. this place has been consistently good over the years. I’m giving 5 stars because it was a great experience from food to service. I could not find anything wrong with the visit.. the salsa was hotter than I remember but really good.. over the years if something was wrong they worked with me to make it right .. the cost for a dinner for 2 was 10 dollars less than the lunch we had earlier in the day at another local spot. So the value was on point too .. this place is not Ruth Chris so don’t set that expectation.. this is a mom and pop type Hispanic restaurant that makes good food no...
Read moreI went here several years ago and experienced racism. I was the 3 rd person to arrive with my family 3 children ages 12, 10 and 6 ay 1130 AM. The place filled up fast it was a Saturday. No waitresses came by our table till 1245 to take our order. We were the only white people in the place. My children wanted to leave, but I keep saying they will come shortly. We were starred at the whole time by many of the other customers. When all of the others had been served and 90 percent had left, then they took our order. You could tell by the way we were approached that they did not want to serve us. I know how others feel when they say that they experienced racism!!!! I will never forget it, but I do forgive their actions. So yes racism does exist in Lubbock, Texas. Don't go there if you want to be treated with disrespect. I did not think that Lubbock had such a place, but it does. We are all equal in the eyes of God. Treat others like you want to be Treated. You own a business, be kind to all no matter what color someone's skin is and treat every one fairly. Just...
