Some of the reviews had me nervous, because we know good soul food (having grown up in the Chi & the Nap and lived all over the United States) but being in town for just the weekend- Granny’s hit the spot! The service was welcoming, friendly, and attentive! Even after our meal, they checked on us! We had just hit up Pascal’s yesterday (which was really good), but Granny’s fried catfish, fried whiting and mac and cheese were more on point (sorry- just facts)!!! The squash, cabbage, rice and gravy, and green beans were perfect! The only thing that was a little over salted was the fried okra (2 shakes less and it would’ve been perfect)! We can’t comment on the dessert yet because we are too full to eat them now, but we did order the peach cobbler, pound cake, and strawberry cake. Based off of what we’ve had so far, we will be back! UPDATE- my husband couldn’t leave without taking a bite of the strawberry cake. He said it’s delicious!

I really enjoyed my food from Granny's it's truly soul food that you can enjoy. I love the fact that it is reasonably priced. Some of the food is cooked to order and I got the chicken with collards and macaroni. The chicken was very juicy and flavorful I enjoyed having it fresh. The macaroni was okay it needed a little seasoning but it still was pretty good. The greens were just as expected just like Grandma used to make. If you're looking for a reasonably priced soul food that tastes like soul food should then please stop by Granny's they have a great selection of options. If you're going to order online just know that the prices are more expensive online than they are in the store. We enjoyed the food so much we doubled back the next day and got some. If you're in the area you won't be disappointed. I was also able to try the banana pudding on the second day and it was very good definitely homemade.

THEY HAVE NEW OWNERSHIP

I have been going to Granny’s soul food for 7 years. When I was pregnant I went every other day! As a person who cooks extremely well, this was my “go-to” spot when I didn’t want to cook. I knew that I would get quality food and the candied yams were my favorite.

I knew all of the owners, staff AND all of the cooks. They were all so friendly and personable and you could feel the love in the air. Even during COVID, they would bring my food out to my car so I wouldn’t have to go in with my toddler .

The last couple of times I went, I noticed a difference. The first time, I chalked it up as a one off because I had seen new faces and thought maybe they were on vacation.

Today I went and it was a totally different vibe. It was a cold and unwelcoming spirit when you walk in. I waited 3 minutes at the counter (when there was nobody in there) because the staff member was sitting down having a conversation on his phone). They “forgot” to give me a fork with my meal. I stopped by gas station to get one. The food was so bland. Greens tasted like they were simply blanched in water with no seasoning; yams Tasted like they were just over-boiled in sugar; the ribs were too tough to even share with my toddler. It wasn’t even worth trying to doctor it up. I threw the food away. A waste of $20 (oh yeah and all the prices went way up).

Let me be clear, this is NOT GRANNY’S SOUL FOOD. This is new ownership Completely

Granny please take your name back and make them change the name of this restaurant. All of your hard work legacy is going down the drain....

SALT IS NOT SEASONING!!! I repeat SALT IS NOT SEASONING!!!

This is my second time trying this restaurant.

The first time I went I ordered the beef tips, broccoli and cheese rice, squash and lemonade. The beef tips were extremely salty it was not edible. However the cornbread, broccoli and cheese rice and squash was ok.

I decided to give them another try today because I was in the area and felt it had potential to be good minus the extreme salt on the meat per my last visit. Today I ordered the baked chicken and broccoli cheese rice. The chicken was extremely salty I couldn’t even tell you what flavor it was. It just tastes like it was smothered in Morton’s salt, No exaggeration. I feel sick AF/nauseous. Every single bite tasted like straight up salt. The broccoli and cheese rice was just cheese and rice I had not one piece of broccoli in my portion. The lemonade was warm as they were already pre made, ice melted. The restaurant was not busy at all for them to have pre made cups of lemonade. It was a younger girl and an older lady working. Poor customer service, demeanor not welcoming at all.

As I read the comments before posting my review. I see a lot of reviews stating that the food was unseasoned and no flavor. I’m guessing that’s why y’all been heavily seasoning the food with SALT. Please stop you guys have the potential to be good but the heavy, heavy, heavy salt is not fixing the problem. Instead it’s adding to your problem!

SALT IS NOT SEASONING!!! I repeat SALT IS NOT...

I was shocked!!! Ok so I was starving to death waiting for my children at Six Flags. There was no way I was paying tourist prices I my own town. I wasn't interested in venturing into the Epicenter so I just started driving. After a few minutes I settled on just being hungry. I was turning around at the gas station and see this Granny's sign. Now yall know it is always a toss up with new soul food. So I waited first to see how long it took people to exit..maybe 3 to 4 minutes...ok I said to myself let's try it. So I go in one guy is making plates and taking payments but he is moving more quickly than all the chick's at any Golden Crust combined. So he had turkey wings, turkey necks, baked chicken, pork chops, and all the sides. I got rice, lime beans, collards, Mac n cheese, cabbage, and corn bread. I had my eye on the turkey wings they looked good but I just got veggies. I get to my car and start with the lima beans and rice...hmm okay...I mix in the cabbage...not bad...then the collards with the cabbage and a piece of cornbread and I am like eating for real now and I am thinking damn this good. Add in Mac n cheese and I am sitting here thinking man this taste like my families SOUTHERN SOUL food for real...it was seasoned but not salty...I do not like salty food. It was really good. I ATE IT ALL @ 1 TIME!!! I should have gotten the turkey wings or turkey necks but that is a sit in the bed then go to sleep type meal. Great service Great food. I am glad...
