Fincher's Barbecue — Restaurant in Macon

This is the real deal. If you want genuine southern barbecue served in a genuinely friendly atmosphere, this is the place. First, the ambience. In the ideal southern barbecue restaurant, the star is the food. Inexpensive yet tasty and the surroundings are secondary. Fincher's has this in spades. They have been around and family owned since 1935 and it shows, not only in the dining room that has undoubtedly served hundreds of thousands but the food and the friendly owners who keep people coming back. Excellent brisket, excellent sauce, a handshake from the owner when he sees a face he hadn't seen before, the friendly banter from the waitress to everyone and casual conversations with dozens of regulars who can't get enough of the place. If you want canned atmosphere and a fancy and polished everything, go to Longhorn. I enjoy Fincher's, and my original rating was 5 stars. The fries were fresh and hot, the barbeques was tasty. I will continue to eat here if I am near this part of Houston Ave. , but...

1. This physical location is scary. This part of Macon is considered a high crime area, and I encountered a vagrant pandering at the intersection nearby.

2. The buildings and premises are in desperate need of upgrades and repairs.

I can't give Fincher's a bad review!.. The last time I sat in that dinning room on Houston Avenue was before 1990. I remember the car shows/ burnout contest !! FINCHER'S WAS THE SH.... BACK IN THE DAY!! I enjoyed my pork chop plate today with a side of that famous stew!! I didn't look at names today but everyone there made me feel like I belonged...
