Longtime customer here. I never imagined leaving a review like this on La Plaza F!esta. However, I felt like tonight the portions were much different than any other visit to the restaurant. The combo fajita sides came out on a tiny kids plate. I asked for no lettuce and it came out with lettuce, guac, tomato, sour cream, beans, cheese, and rice on a plate that was 1/3 the size of the previous portion. Everything was very small amounts of each do to the plate size. After 2 tortillas the side plate was empty. No sides left. I asked the waitress if something had changed and was told no. I know better, because I have eaten this same meal 8-10 times per year since the reopening after the fire. I mentioned it to the manager on duty tonight prior to leaving and was told that it was more well proportioned in size now and the owner wants to cut costs on meals. As a customer I would much rather pay the extra $2 on the meal and get the full plate of sides to enjoy with all of the tortillas vs paying the normal price and having no sides left after the first 2. Also on the small plate, even with tiny portions everything is on top of one another and mixed. That being said, it has always been good food prior to tonight. The only reason I am leaving this review is in hopes that ownership/management will see this, and put the portion size back to the way it should be. Charge the extra $2 if you need to. Because for the first time out of every visit to the restaurant, my wife and I had no leftovers on $20 per plate meals. That has never happened before and there wasnât even sides left for the second half of the meals. It is not about the money, it is about having enough to eat some of it all in each fajita. They are just not the same without sides in every one. La plaza is known for having the best Mexican food and portions in the area. Donât tarnish the restaurantâs name by shrinking portions to keep the meal prices down. Charge what you need to keep everything how it was. That way you keep your restaurants name the talk of the area in a good way. I really hope someone in management or ownership see...
Read moreMy family and I were visiting family in Lake Crystal when my sister-in-law strongly recommended this place, knowing we live a plant-based lifestyle and are pretty critical about our Mexican, native to the southwest (Arizona). We were absolutely amazed at how flavorful the entrees are, plentiful, utilization of spices, and creative combination of ingredients. Most places lack vision when it comes to vegan & vegetarian dishes. However, La Plaza Fiesta did their homework and passed with flying colors. Lots of grilled veggies (zucchini, carrots, broccoli) along with peppers (red & green) onions & tomatoes in their Vegetable fajitas. The soy chorizo/pineapple in their tacos and Chimichanga were delicious. Not a fan of fruit in savory dishes but this worked well. The Chilaquiles was a pleasant surprise since most Mexican restaurants don't even offer this. The salsa was amazing and the scratch-made chips are to die for. Can't forget to mention the beans (frijoles) are rustic, savory, and delectable. To put so much effort into their vegan menu with a wide selection of choices that are luscious was really impressive. The rest of the menu must be just as amazing. I applaud the owners in their efforts to cast a wide net to capture a diverse audience not taking a shortcut with basic ingredients. If you want some out-of-the-box Mexican food, this the...
Read moreI was so excited for this place! I even suggested it to quite a few people before I ever visited considering the online rating and how much my friends loved it.
Worst part, everything that is a sauce has water added to it. The items from our dinner that were watered down included the queso, the Alfredo sauce on the pasta was very watery, the salsa was overly watery, and the kids meal was entirely cold with a hard cold grilled cheese. All of that made me wonder if the watery food items are cut with water to save money. If so, bad move. Business people around America seem to follow the trend of cutting corners on the customer and I seriously believe there is far more merit and money to be made acting honestly with integrity at any rate.
Another Important Note:
If you look at the photos posted here you can see there was a tip of a pen or perhaps some other metal item inside the meal given to me. I ate about a bowls helping of chips and water salsa by the end of this dinner visit. đ
I wasn't upset at all, I mostly laughed at the harsh ironies of the visit considering how much I had talked the place up and was excited to visit. I likely will never go back.
I hope your experience pans out...
