I was told this place has the best burgers in the Madison area. I knew nothing could beat Dotty's, but I'm always open to trying new places.
It's a neighborhood bar. All of the patrons seemed to know each other and the bartenders. A bit of a hole, but not in a bad way, and clean. They only take cash. The prices are very reasonable.
In addition to burgers, I tried their special that day, which was prime rib. I was under the impression it was a prime rib sandwich, but it turned out to be a HUGE hulking cut of meat. It was a decent cut, with decent flavor, but not the best cooked, best seasoned, or most flavorful I've ever tried. I dont know if I'd get it again when I'm specifically craving prime rib.
The burgers are equally huge, hulking monsters. I got bacon cheeseburgers for both my wife and myself and I got a runny egg on mine. I enjoyed mine. It took me two days to eat, and I'm a big eater. Came with an absolute STACK of bacon on it. My wife was less impressed. She found it to be lacking in flavor, the burger and bacon to both be overcooked (we asked for pink in the middle for the burgers, and she is correct, they were not pink) and her patty was falling apart. I think it took her four days to eat it, she is not a big eater like me. They came with chips that, if memory serves, were homemade.
Definitely not the best burger (or prime rib) in the area unless you give extra points for size. But might be the most burger you can get for your money. And not bad...
Read moreBartender argued that she gave me the game day special when she did not. I let it go, being a bartender myself, I get it that when your busy mistakes are made. But later, I informed her on the sly that I cleaned up a vomit bomb for her on the bathroom. To this comment she turned her back to me and walked away as if she did not hear me. When I went to hand her a 40% tip, I repeated myself, and to this she admitted that she heard me the first time. I still handed her 40% tip because that's my experienced routine. I hoped to kill the "b"""""" " with kindness but she didn't get it. So here I am, used to hang out here all the time. Ex-bartender "Sarah " did me wrong also, so haven't given the place the time of day til tonight. Ultimately i am super disappointed and will not come here again to join other friends that frequent the place lately. I will bring them to my side...
Read moreI'm pretty sure this building used to be someone's house that has been converted into a bar. Nothing is very new about it... Do not come here expecting anything but momma's greasy grill and a 'hometown' vibe. The usual patrons are hard working sports lovers who go to hang with the boys after work and have a decent inexpensive meal. That being said, it is a great place to go for delicious food. The burgers are literally 1 pound of meat and they make the potato chips in house.
Some things to note: they charge $0.25 for each topping on the burgers, for to-go containers, and an extra $2 or so for splitting the 1lb burger into two smaller ones. Still totally worth it. They have daily specials like taco Tuesday and prime rib Monday.
5 stars for the food alone, but the strong drinks help you look past the blue collar vibe (if you don't fit into...
