I haven’t been since the ownership changed back in 2017, and not much has changed. I always found the food pricy and average in quality. Now, the service is such that the owner makes you feel as if you’re an inconvenience to be served, which is a swell addition.
There were 7 of us that had asked for a table, and were given a 25-30 minute wait time, which is par for the course; we were a bigger party and they do tend to be busy. We were outside the Wisconsin Aviation FBO building enjoying the weather, and after 20 minutes, we went in a couple times to see where we stood for our table. It seemed as if that was an annoyance; our group was told it was “almost ready” both times, but ina ten that conveyed annoyance rather than just letting us know.
WisAv has complimentary coffee and cookies in the lobby, one of our party had gotten a cup to drink while waiting. When our table was ready and we were heading in, the owner said, “I’ll take that” and whisked away her coffee, even though she wasn’t finished with it. That seemed really petty, like they were trying to force her to buy more inside? (Turns our she just had water so fail with that idea).
Once we did sit down, we were told in no uncertain terms that parties of 8 or more would be one bill. Twice. Look, these days most people pay with a card, it’s not easy to split up like you could with cash. I get it is an inconvenience for a restaurant and there are transaction fees, but it’s also reality.
Fortunately our server was very pleasant and really fast. We got our food quick, she had no problem splitting the checks, and was very attentive. The food quality is still mediocre, compared to well, everywhere else in town. I also find the on-airport experience at Bessie’s in Janesville the total opposite and an experience to emulate.
Our server did suggest we not all try to pay at the counter all at once, which is also understandable, if there’s just one person cashing out. I’ve also seen it way busier there than this afternoon, but ok. The owner who cashed us out was dead silent and very brusque as two of us paid.
Overall, the location has just that going for it: its location. If customers are going to feel like they are an inconvenience versus being actual customers, I certainly...
Read moreWe've been here many times, but had such a disappointing experience earlier this week that I don't think we will be back anytime soon.
We were greeted by an impatient host who wasn't friendly; he seemed very stressed out and barked at us.
Still, we waited happily for our seats, understanding the 8 people might take a long time to accomodate.
When we were seated, our party of 8 was split into two separate tables. (Not a problem, it's a small place!) BUT there was a table IN BETWEEN our tables despite there being two tables next to each other available.
When the guests at the table between us left, we asked our server if one group of 4 could move over (no one had food yet, so it was super easy). Our server (who was very friendly and professional!) said "no problem!"
As the group was moving to the empty table, the host (pretty sure he's the owner) literally ran over. He was very upset and said, "You can't do that!" in an irritated voice.
The way we were treated by him during our entire visit made me feel like we were a bother. No one wants to feel like that. Our friends were visiting from abroad and we took them to the Jet Room as a special experience and we were treated so rudely I felt embarrassed.
Food is good and our server was very nice, but the host's treatment left a terrible taste in my mouth. I'll certainly be sharing my story with friends and am not planning on returning to the Jet Room.
A little kindness goes a long way. Every guest should feel welcome. We were friendly, flexible, kind guests (most of us have worked in the service industry) and how we were treated was unacceptable.
ETA: If you read the other low reviews, unfortunately a pattern emerges about the host/owner. At least I don't need to take it...
Read moreI have NEVER been treated with such disrespect from someone in the service industry until today and it was from the host/manager/owner, Nick. To my fellow parents please read this: I made a birthday reservation for me, my kids (2 year old & my newborn), and my parents for this morning. My parents got there very early and refused to seat them until the whole party arrived (I get it it’s stated on the website), but he was also rude to them about it. Meanwhile, my two year old was having a meltdown in the parking lot so it was taking me a long time to get him to go in. When we got to the host stand, we were 7 minutes late so he refused to seat us and told us we had to wait. He then proceeded to sit another party who didn’t have a reservation before us so I went back in to ask when are table will be ready. He said because I was late I had to wait now so I asked him where our table is and he pointed to an empty table and I was like why can’t we sit at it if it’s ready to go for us and he said because you were late. Keep in mind- It wasn’t even busy and no one else was waiting besides us. Nick was extremely rude and condescending to me and kept saying because we weren’t on time we had to wait because he runs a “tight ship” here. I would maybe get it if they were busy, but even the nicest & busiest restaurants in Madison allow you to be up to 15 mins late. He just wanted to punish us for being late and continued to snap at me about it. He had me in tears in the lobby and the ONLY reason we stayed to still eat was because my son was already so excited about the planes. I will no longer be supporting a business that has an owner who treats women, single parents (he will lack any compassion for you with kids) and people on their...
