RD’s Smokehouse BBQ — Restaurant in Madison

On 10/16/25, at approximately 5:15pm I found the staff to be rude and disrespectful. The cashier insisted that I pay for my food before I confirm the correct order. I told the cashier that I didn't know if I wanted to tip until I check the order she said "I DONT NEED NO TIP!" I did not tip and just paid for the food, as I was checking my order she said, "YOU SOUND LIKE A KID ON THE PHONE AND YOU ACT LIKE ONE TOO!" My girlfriend placed the order, she has a high pitch voice I'm a man and I have a much lower voice, so I assume she thought I placed the order on the phone. The cashier rude comment provoked the cook to mock my order in a high pitch voice "Let me get the wings with the smack jaw!" After checking my food, I told the cashier to work on her communication skills as I exit. My girlfriend said she was rude to her while placing the order, so I guess RD's lost 2 customers, luckily for them we're only two. update to owner response: the cashier was having a bad day and displayed no patience. 1) On my ticket, it reads Lauren, my name is Lawrence. My girlfriend said she repeated three times. 2) I wanted to tip after confirming order. Cashier said I don't need no tip! 3) As I'm checking the order I paid for the Cashier comment You sound like a kid and you act like one too! 4) the cook and her laughed and the cook mocked my order in a high pitch voice. RD’s has been recommended by several in my circle and I finally had a chance to go. I will say that I am very particular about the flavors that I like and RD’s, unfortunately is not my favorite. More on that in a moment, THE QUE IS REAL! RD can flat out smoke some meat. The flavor of his chicken and pulled pork was all through there with TENDERNESS and MOISTNESS also. I got the managers special(wings, pulled pork sandwich, side and drink). It was worth the price. I just did not like the way he seasons the wings or the flavor of the pork. There was something different about the wing flavor and the vinegariness of the pork was not my thing. But that smackjaw and bamaboi hot sauce are good and compliment it well. The sides I had were Jalapeño hush puppies, mac and cheese, fries, and peach cobbler. I would go back just for the sides, a bottle of that Bamaboi Fire sauce and that lemonade/tea. I also want to try his ribs and fish. I have a feeling that I’d like those. There were more delights on the menu but it was a HOT day so I’ll save those for my next trip.

RD’s is a great establishment with delicious food and excellent service; I feel he deserves to be recognized with the BBQ...

I normally visit the BBQ place every Saturday after working on my farm. I went there today at 6:30 PM . I was told I asked for catfish, I was told they did not have any. I asked for wings. I was told I could not order wings because they turned off the fryer. I asked what they had available. I was offered pulled pork or smoked chicken. I asked for a hamburger. The young lady at the counter said yes and asked one of the cooks if she could make a hamburger. She rolled her eyes in disgust, frowned her face and slowly shook her head up and down.

Here is where I have a problem. If I am spending money to support a business, I should not be made to feel as if I am a bother. I am a repeat customer because of the good food and service. The service today was the worse service I experienced. I did not feel welcomed when I entered, and the cook was more concerned with closing the doors at 7:00 PM than making something that I wanted to order. My wife and I left without ordering.
