J & L Cafe — Restaurant in Maiden

I ordered 2 country ham, egg, and cheese biscuits and only recieved country ham biscuits. I called and spoke to the young girl at the counter and let her know that I could bring the biscuits back (because I didn't plan on eating them without the egg and cheese). She told me not to worry about bringing them back and that they would just replace them. So the next day (after dropping my daughter off at school) I dropped by to pick up the biscuits. The older lady at the counter started quizzing me as to what was wrong with the biscuits. I told her that they had simply left the egg and cheese out of the biscuits and I still had them at the house if she wanted to see them. She finally approved my biscuits. After the order was finished, she told the sweet little girl ringing me up (the same girl that I had spoken to on the phone when I let them know about the mistake) not to charge me for the egg and cheese. I was quite upset by this (I wasn'teven hungry, I had just stopped by because I was driving by after dropping my daughter off), so I told the girl to make sure she just rings it all up like usual. I paid for the 2 country ham egg and cheese biscuits. I could not have cared less about the money, it was the principal. I have been coming there for over ten years and to feel as if they thought I was trying to cheat them out of a biscuit was just incredible to me. I could see that even the sweet little girl ringing me up was surprised that they were going to charge me. Anyway, long story short, great food, some great people but just pray they don't make a mistake on your order and if they do, it's not worth...

Extremely disappointed. The price you pay for things today is just insane for what you actually get. $7.00 for a double cheese burger that is dry and tasteless. Our bill came to almost $50 for two double cheese burgers, two chili cheese fries, one onion ring and 2 drinks. The burgers were chalky dry with no flavor, the fries were soggy, under cooked, the chili was just ground hamburger with slight tomatoes sauce flavor, and the cheese was like craft singles (melted plastic). The onion rings were under cooked and nasty soggy. No flavor to anything what so ever, just a soggy/rubbery mess. Do not waste your time or money, we only went because my husband used to love their breakfast and had not been in several years. So we decided to grab some lunch. A true greese spoon. Food was great and I'd eat here again. But I'd think twice before dining in. Places like this are rare today. Ten years of greese and dust caked into the vents. Ceiling tiles stained yellow from an age when nicotine reigned supreme. Grime in the corners of the room so black I was waiting for something to crawl out of it. Try this place for the food and the expierence. You'll be hard press to find anywhere else...
