So my sister and her husband who just got back from deployment after 3 years came to visit. I decided to take them here and that was a mistake. We’ve been a few times and enjoyed the place but not this time. My sister has a gluten allergy due to a surgery. If she eats gluten she can be hospitalized. Well we get in and wait for 30 minutes (which was fine it was busy) once we get seated we wait a bit due to the busyness and finally order. We ordered three pizzas. Since the menu states gluten free my sister ordered a gluten free pizza. After we get the food she ate two slices and then realized the chicken on it was breaded. So we asked and was told that was gluten. So she stops eating and looks upset. We asked how this wasn’t gluten free if it isn’t actually gluten free. They said it was only the crust which that wasn’t how it’s stated on the menu. The waitress gets another waitress and that waitress starts being rude and says she doesn’t have time for this. I explained to her that this is a problem as there’s a chance my sister may have to go to the hospital. Instead of apologizing or showing any remorse starts blaming my sister for ordering it. I stopped her and said your customer service is very lacking. They then kept repeating the crust was only gluten free. I get a menu and read through it and don’t see it listed that way. So now I want to speak to the owner since they said I could talk to them. They come back and say he’s busy in the kitchen and I said I don’t care he needs to come out and address this or I won’t pay. He comes out and then starts berating me on the order and kept repeating gluten crust. I kept showing him it doesn’t show that. Again no apology no remorse no care. They all just kept making it our fault. Very unprofessional. He said are you going to pay? (Which apparently that’s all they care about) I said no, not with this treatment. So they called the cops. We waited for the cops because we are not thieves. When the cops came they shared their side of the story saying I ate all the pizza and was refusing to get a free meal which wasn’t the case when 3/4th of the food was still on the table. We explained our side and eventually agreed to pay for two of three pizzas (not the apparent gluten free pizza). I payed, no tip (wasn’t going to with the horrible service) and left. I found out also which I should have pressed charges was that the owners brother was outside and told one officer he had to cool off because he was going to beat me up and put me in a pretzel hold (which would have been great to see). So all in all if you or someone you know has a gluten allergy I don’t recommend you go here as they don’t care about your well-being and just your money. If only he would have been professional and we talked this out the situation would have been more positive and we may have come back. But we won’t which I’m sure if he reads this he’s probably...
Read moreIt absolutely pains me to leave a bad review here. I came when they first opened and everyone was delightful. Plus the place is awesome like a museum of nostalgia. I came in tonight with a group of 8 including 3 elderly individuals. In front the girl rudely stated we should have made reservations. Really at a local pizza place? You need reservations to eat pizza? Umm Ok then fair enough I guess…so we can wait.. a different woman finally seated us in the back at 3 different tables and then disappeared. We decided to scoot the tables together so we could sit together. Which we did for about 20 minutes or so before the same woman who brought us back there came back in and started screaming about how the tables can’t be moved and how it’s a city ordinance… yeah that makes sense the city cares about tables being placed together so families can actually sit near each other. More like it didn’t fit how they wanted it too look at that particular time. As I said it’s more of a museum than a pizza parlor. Anyways back to story she then stormed back out and disappeared once again. Could she have taken drink orders at that time? Sure could have… did she? Nope…We put the tables back how they were and sat down only to wait another 20 minutes with nobody in sight to take any kind of order. At that point we just left. It’s unfortunate that they can’t get it together. They won the best pizza in Dekalb county became more popular and didn’t hire any extra help. They just aren’t equipped for any kind of dinner rush with the seemingly 3 employees they had working. I get that they are stressed out but the way they treated our group was completely outrageous. It’s like bro you’re a waitress chill out or quit definitely not worth being horrible to 4 generations of a family. Also as a side note if you came to play some arcade games most of them are broken in some way or another so don’t waste...
Read moreCame out from DeKalb to meet some friends from Rockford, made for a great "halfway" point to minimize their drive and see something that might go otherwise missed. We have been meaning to come here for some time and it was fun to finally make it.
Appetizers and drinks were fine, had the Don Knotts and Corn Nuggets, I would have preferred a wider beer and drink selection but I'm assuming it has a bit to do with a limited liquor license, which is fine. Pizza was sweet and tasty, the crust was beautifully hand twisted, we had the Diana Ross and the Malta Sweethaven Pizza, but a little weird to view under blue and green lighting. That said, the lighting made for fun non-food photos. There is quite a bit of stuff to behold and it definitely conjurs up plenty of Gen X/Y nostalgia. Despite being of age, I wanted a Shirley Temple but they were out of grenadine.
They really have just about every surface covered with old memorabilia but everything looked nice and clean and dust/grease free, which is a feat considering what all is there. I really appreciate the time and energy put into decorating and maintenance. There is a fun little arcade with a crane machine and our teenage server seemed a little swamped but competent and attentive.
Despite my very minor gripes, all the important things were there - food, service, fun, memories. It made for a good evening with plenty of giddy photos and conversation before we even walked inside, definitely a worthy destination to visit with friends.
I REALLY WANT THESE GUYS TO PERFECT A SCHOOL LUNCH PIZZA! IF YOU BUILD IT,...
