Picked this location randomly based off Google reviews when traveling. I was pleasantly surprised.
I ordered an omelet with mushrooms and cheddar with the home fries. I did ask the waitress if the fries or home fries were better. She recommended the home fries. It was a good recommendation.
The omelet was exceptional. It was not the normal greasy omelet that some diners and restaurants serve. My value on a meal is if the food that I purchased out is something that I can cook home and cook significantly better, the meal was not worth it. I can cook eggs and often do, but this omelet with home fries was great.
My son ordered pancakes and chocolate milk. He was commenting to me on wanting 'Mickey Mouse' pancakes. I did not believe that Mickey Mouse pancakes or any special shapes were option, so I tempered his expectations and told him to just get the regular pancakes. Either they overheard him or they make them for all kids, he was treated with 'Mickey Mouse' pancakes. They were 3 large pancakes with 2 smaller silver dollar pancakes as ears for each pancake. The waitress serving the food even noted to him, here are 'Mickey Mouse' pancakes. He thoroughly enjoyed his chocolate milk and pancakes. I tried some, and they were good as well. He could not finish half his meal, so I might order a smaller portion next time. I did bring home the leftover pancakes.
Portions were good, and prices were very fair.
I would...
Read moreI’m a Jersey-shore-girl-turned-Minnesota-resident, and I miss the following Jersey classics most when I’m in Minneapolis: pizza, diners, bagels, and the beach. I’m currently visiting Jersey for Christmas, and I knew I needed to visit a dinner before I left. I looked up reviews, and I was very intrigued by Gus’s Diner.
When we got there, it was clear that this place is popular with locals and has a number of regulars that the staff know by name. We were seated promptly, and the service was friendly and efficient. The pancakes and home fries were excellent, although I wish the home fries were seasoned more thoroughly. My mom ordered a gyro panini, and she was a big fan of the grilled chicken, fresh dill, pickle, and tzatziki sauce. Clearly, Gus’s is a step above other local diners in terms of fresh ingredients. It didn’t seem like they took the normal diner shortcuts.
I loved my experience, and I’m excited to try the black and white cookie we ordered to go. My biggest critique is that Gus’s didn’t seem too concerned about environmental sustainability. We were given plastic straws, individual butter packets, individual half and half, and individual syrup packets. The individually-wrapped condiments may have been to been to be covid conscious, but I wish Gus’s served fewer...
Read moreATTENTION toxic work environment they should be BOYCOTTED, I just had a horrible experience at Gus's diner. I was sitting eating my lunch and the owner went back into the kitchen screaming and cursing at a waitress because she got someone's food wrong it lasted for about 5 minutes to the point where I couldn't eat my food, the waitress came out of the kitchen nearly crying. When I got up to pay for my food I complained to the gentleman and told him that it wasn't good to yell at his employees like that he called me trash in front of people. This man does not care about his customers or his employees he simply wants the money. It's on the net already about his toxic work environment. The food was horrible the service stunk I do not recommend this Diner to anyone. I would never give this man another dime. Manalapan Diner is literally 10 minutes away on Route 9 the food the service is 10 times better and the prices are cheaper and not a toxic work environment. I do not promote this type of behavior or help promote it by giving him customers. He should be SUED by his employees for a toxic work environment. The owner would have to...
