I was looking forward to taking my Son here for a nice dinner and a couple drinks as he lives right around the corner. Only part of that happen. It gets one star because our waitress was very courteous, the place is beautiful and the manager did the right thing. We were seated at our table immediately which we had reserved although not necessary last evening and our waitress promptly took our drink order. She was very nice answering all of our questions and joking around with us. My son ordered the Chicken Alfredo (he’s a big fan) and I ordered the 12 Oz. Ribeye $32.00 so I as expecting something very good. Our bread and salads arrived and the bread was great with a nice cheese dipping sauce, the salads were average but ok. Our entries can in a timely fashion. This is where it goes downhill fast. Now I have eaten a lot of ribeye’s in my 64 years on this earth and never saw one that looked like this one. Frankly, it looked like something you would get at Waffle House at 3:00 AM. That’s not a knock on Waffle House, I love Waffle House and in fact have had better steaks there. This piece of meat was maybe 3/8 of an inch thick with no marbling at all. I am not a butcher but this was not a Ribeye. When I cut into it was tough and although I had ordered medium rare it was way well done, I didn’t even taste it! While waiting to our server my Son said his chicken was also very dry and the pasta was overcooked. Our server took our plates and said she would get it taken care of my Son decided to just get a cheeseburger instead as he expected that a re-try on his dish would probably be no better. Our second set of entries came and my son’s burger looked ok. My so called Ribeye was not really any better. Same thin scrawny steak as before. It was sort of medium rare although not evenly cooked one side was obviously just flipped over long enough to get a bit of color on it. I took a bite and it was tasteless and tough. My guess was that not long before it ended up in front of me it had been in the freezer and probably for a long time as it had that odd taste that meat gets after being it the freezer for to long. At that point I was done! My son sensing my displeasure decided not to even try the burger which may have been fine. I explained to our server that I was not going to pay $32.00 for what I was being served to me. I told her we would be happy to pay for our drinks and requested the manager. The manger did not come back right away but after a bit she brought our drink check and said she had comped the food (duh) but offered little in the way of an apology and obviously perturbed. As I said in the beginning this is a very nice place, the golf course is beautiful in the summer and I am sure that it is a great place for a challenging round of golf. It is also probably a great place to have a cold beer and some bar food after that round but I would strongly suggest you find a different place to have a steak. In fact they should be ashamed that in a state that produces some of the finest beef in the world that they would try to pawn this piece of meat as a Ribeye and try to charge a premium...
Read moreI recently had an absolutely terrible experience at Colbert Hills Golf Course and would not recommend it to anyone. In fact, I would give this golf course a 0/5 stars rating if I could.
First of all, the pricing is outrageous. They offer a so-called "discounted" rate of $65 for Military and KSU students, but even that is not worth it. The course simply does not deliver the quality and value that you should expect for such a high price.
Furthermore, I was shocked to learn that the course kicks everyone off at 7:30pm during spring, even though sunset is still hours away. This is extremely frustrating, especially when you have paid for a full round of golf. Other golf courses are more than happy to let patrons finish their rounds, even if it means playing in the dark, but not Colbert Hills.
Overall, my experience at Colbert Hills Golf Course was terrible and I would strongly advise against playing here. The pricing is exorbitant and the policies are incredibly frustrating. Save your money and go elsewhere for a more enjoyable...
Read moreLove this course. Played it for the first time today. I’m a 56 year old 6.5 handicap and played from the purple (middle) tees. The fairways are ample. The rough is penal but fair. A couple of holes I took less club off the tee than I could have simply because I hadn’t played the course before. I could have hit driver but didn’t recognize that areas I thought were hazard were simply rough between split fairways.
The 5th hole is a 165 yard par 3 with a cool bunkers shaped like a wildcat paw (for KState) with purple sand. Do NOT hit it in here because the bunker shot is extremely difficult!
The elevation changes and fairway mounding are a welcome challenge and quite fun compared to the mostly flatter courses I normally play in Oklahoma and Texas. Several holes have tight OB just off the fairways, and I found these areas a couple of times. Only three holes have water hazards, but on all three the water is definitely in play
Greens are fast and well mounded, offering a challenge to golfers of all skill level.
Great...
