5-8 Tavern & Grill — Restaurant in Maplewood

I always worry when a restaurant has pull tabs inside... I get the sense that this place doesn’t attract new customers. Food was bad. Service was bad. Let me explain: I tried to order take out but their phone system wasn’t working. I called like 6 times and each time it was pick up, 2 seconds of silence, then hang up. Idk, so I drove there. Greeting was awkward, it was like a game of 20 questions until I interrupted to hostess to tell her I’m here to place a takeout order. I ordered the Saucy Sally, sweet potato fries, and fried pickles. I waited at the bar until it was ready. Bartender was friendly but this was during NFL playoffs and they don’t have any sports on the TV, just 60 minutes on all the TVs. Nobody thought to change the channel and I’m guessing nobody wanted to watch 60 minutes at a bar. Wait time was normal, about 15 minutes, and I live 4 minutes away (1.4 miles) so food should still be hot when I got home. The sweet potato fries were ice cold like they’d been sitting out for a while, but they were crispy. The fried pickles were the opposite in that they were warm, but soggy and soft. So I popped them in the oven for 5 minutes and low and behold even I can make fried pickles crispy. The bun on the burger was one of those dry, crumbly buns like Wendy’s which I’m guessing were frozen at some point. The buns were also too small for the diameter of the meat, which was really weird. Admittedly, they have the option of a pretzel bun so that might be better. It was a messy burger, but good, it’s just that the bun ruined it. I know this place has been around a while, so they have locals that waste all their money on the pull tabs, but I’m surprised they’re still in business with food/service/experience like that. WORST PLACE EVER!!!! My family and I went there after my sons soccer game to celebrate how great of a season he had. We had to stand in the entry way for 20 minutes waiting for a table to open up. They had a posting that Guy Fieri from Diners, Drive In's, and Dives was there, so that seemed that this would be a great place to eat. NO CHANCE! When we finally got to sit and order the waitress was extremely rude. We waited another 20 minutes for our food and the waitress got my order wrong. Oh and get this my sister in law got chill with crackers. She opened the crackers and put them on her chilly only to find a BUG IN HER FOOD!!!! All the waitress who is aparently the manager also had to say was "Oh do you want something else?" We of course said no because we all couldnt even finish the food we had because it was so gross... The waitress/manager took the chill off the bill but nothing else even though we all clearly felt sick to our stomach after seeing the bug in the food. After the waitress/manager gave us the check she was no where to be found for like 10 minutes so we had to get up and go to the bar to pay our bill which was where she was standing. I had a coupon from the val pak that clearly says 1/2 PRICE HAMBURGER BASKET. RECEIVE A 1/2 PRICE BASKET OR $3.25 OFF so I got one burger 1/2 off but my mother in law also tried to use the coupon for her bill and the waitress wouldnt take it because she didnt order the right thing that qualifies her to use the coupon... ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?! WE SHOULDNT OF HAD TO PAY ANYTHING FOR THIS NASTY FOOD AND HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! DONT EVER GO HERE!!! OH AND MAKE SURE TO LOOK ON TOP OF ALL THE GAME MACHINES TO SEE HOW MUCH DUST IS ON THEM.... DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT...

First time ordering take out from this place nearby and the customer service I received was horrible! All the staff were rude and not friendly about picking up my takeout. There was no signs nor anyone there to greet us for any assistance, when I found someone and kindly asked for help, she simply replied with an attitude directing me to go to the bar area to pick up my order. Of course there were several customers at the bar and I must say I felt completely uncomfortable when I got the stare from everyone that I am not an American person. The person who was also in charge of pull tabs even gave me a nasty attitude when I had to ask for assistance about my take out order so I just decided to stay in a random spot in the bar waiting for someone like who apparently may have been the person in charge of the bar/food area suddenly approaches me with a bad attitude asking if I need assistance with an ugly rude looking face. It was not your typical "Hi, how can I help you"? I simply replied to this female "I'm here to pick up my take out order please", she tosses me a copy of the receipt and tells me my total so I slowly took out my card to make my purchase and she just came back to swipe my card quick and returned it back to me and not even saying "Thank you". Never again will I ever consider referring this place to anyone nor even think about ordering their take out food. Better...
