Lakeside Delights: A Review of Finn & Feather Northwoods Cuisine by Terry Kempfert

Rating: ★★★★★ Nestled by the serene shores of our favorite lake, Finn & Feather Northwoods Cuisine proved to be a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Despite this mild winter in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, the cozy dining room exuded warmth and charm, setting the stage for an unforgettable culinary journey. From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted with a sense of hospitality that made us feel right at home. The ambience was inviting, with panoramic views of the frozen lake adding to the overall charm of the setting. To start the evening on a high note, I opted for the Black Walnut Smoked Old Fashioned, a cocktail that promised a perfect blend of smoky bourbon and sweetness. It did not disappoint. The intricate flavors danced on my palate, setting the tone for the culinary delights to come. The side salad appeared unassuming, yet the combination of crisp spring greens, crunchy carrots, juicy tomatoes, and refreshing cucumbers provided a harmonious medley of flavors and textures. Each ingredient was meticulously selected to showcase its natural essence, resulting in a dish that celebrated the purity of simplicity. However, it was the anchovy garlic dressing that elevated this salad to a level of sublime decadence. Reminiscent of the Italian delicacy Bagna Cauda, the dressing infused the dish with a depth of flavor that was both bold and nuanced. The umami richness of the anchovies mingled harmoniously with the pungent aroma of garlic, creating a wonderful prelude to our entrée choices. For the main course, the Parmesan-crusted whitefish stole the spotlight. Cooked to perfection, each bite was a symphony of flavors and textures. The delicate fish, sauteed in white wine and garnished with tiny tomatoes, green onion and parmesan, melted in my mouth, leaving me longing for more. Accompanied by the crispest sweet potato fries and served with a delicious homemade tartar sauce with worked with the fish, and as a dipping sauce! As if the meal couldn't get any better, we indulged in the Turtle Cheesecake for dessert. Drizzled with velvety chocolate and caramel and crowned with toasted pecans, it was a decadent finale that left us in a state of pure bliss. Throughout the evening, the service was impeccable. Attentive yet unobtrusive, the staff ensured that every aspect of our dining experience was nothing short of perfection. Chef and owner Steve came out to see how we liked our dinner and we spent time welcoming him to the area and wishing him the best in this new venture. After a full kitchen remodel, he has big plans coming for the rest of the year. In conclusion, our dining experience at Finn & Feather Northwoods Cuisine was nothing short of extraordinary. From the exquisite cocktails to the delectable cuisine and picturesque setting, every moment was a testament to the culinary mastery and hospitality of this lakeside gem. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Finn & Feather Northwoods Cuisine is a must-visit destination that promises to delight the senses and leave a...

Located on the beautiful west shore of Lake Gogebic. The new owners, Jen, hostess extraordinaire and Steve, master chef, have brought a fresh and exciting menu and excellent dining experience to the Northwoods. We have tried the hand packed burgers that has their special blend from a local market along with fresh local bakery. Whoa on their bourbon baked beans! The garlic Parmesan steak fries are to die for. Ordered the half rack spare ribs with their homemade whisky bourbon sauce fresh off their onsite smoker that were tender with great flavor. Friday night we tried the huge filet of seasoned Pan fried walleye and their perch fish fry topped with a fresh lobster tail, sweet and delicious. The duck Marsala pasta dish…well let’s just say my hubby didn’t say one word at the table as he was too busy eating all the deliciousness. Great portions. Homemade soups. Outstanding service and Staff is friendly, fun and knows their menu. Atmosphere is welcoming with full bar options. Sorry I forgot to take pictures, too busy devouring...

Although it's a new arrival here in the Northwoods, I hope the Fin and Feather decides to stick around. The atmosphere is wonderful and the staff (including the owners!) are incredibly personable and clearly passionate about what they do.

My family and I had the pleasure of being some of their first guests and can say without a doubt that we will be returning to try more of the food. Chef Steve has taken the ingredients that make our neck of the woods stand out, and elevated them masterfully. Everyone at the table was reaching across to one another's plates in order to try a bit of what we had all ordered. The fish was flaky and moist. The housemade dressing on the salad was to die for. And the burger - venison, of course - was thick, juicy, and well-complimented by the added sides.

I can say without hesitation that the Fin and Feather is a gem to have out here on the Lake, and I await my next meal...

We pulled into an empty parking lot but left extremely satisfied with this freshly prepared meal. We both had the homemade freshly squeezed lemonade and it was delicious! I had a cup of the wild rice soup and it was creamy and filled with mushrooms, chicken and vegetables. It was most excellent. The Parmesan pan fried Walleye was also very good although the parmesan coating kept separating from the fish. It was served with a dinner roll, potato and homemade tartar sauce. We asked about dessert and decided to try the Lemon Raspberry cake. It was out of this world delicious! The cake itself was similar to a shortcake in density and had a thick coating of fresh raspberry filling, followed by smashed fresh red raspberries and a huge dollop of real whipped cream. It most definitely did not disappoint!
