What an incredible experience! I have been to the island many times and also to other coffee producing countries but have never taken the opportunity to tour a coffee farm! I had looked at several other farms but had landed on Hacienda Illuminada because of their positive reviews, focus on specialty coffee, and it seemed to have a more local intimate vibe. I was not disappointed! I ended up being the only attendee at the tour, likely due to Ernesto, which provided a truly unique and intimate experience. Christian greeted me with a latte first thing. Then, after taking a short work around the processing center, we hiked through the grounds. He showed me their coffee trees, picked a few fresh limes for me to have, showed me their cabins they are working on, and even let me taste a coffee cherry which has been on my bucket list for years! I also got to see some of the animals around the farm before returning to the main building to learn more about their processing and enjoy more coffee. Christian was a 10/10 host and the vibe here was magical. I told him it was like visiting Eden! Give this farm a look and some support! I want them to thrive for many more...

Waited over 30 minutes for someone to arrive. The guy arrives - practically hides from us. Other people start arriving. Finally someone corners the guy - turns out our tour was cancelled last night and no one told us. I felt bad for him - he was obviously scrambling and didn’t really know what was happening. Then the guy tells us they tried to reach out and tell us - but obviously if they did, it was much too late, since all of us had showed up. He told us we should get a refund - but that’s that. Couldn’t even give us a coffee for our 2 hour drive back. :(
Overall, just left a really bad taste in my mouth. I understand things happen - and the tour would have probably really fun. The grounds were beautiful with lots of animals to see. But the communication was so poor, and they didn’t even attempt to make it right. I feel like I have to warn people. I’m...
Read morePurchased a tour online for monday. Got there to find out tours only on sat. Angel, the farm manager I believe, accommodated us and took us on the tour. Very nice guy and interesting. Turns out he lived in the states before, not far from where we live. This place is great, with wonderful people and big plans. I love the concept. They are all about working with the environment, not taming it. Angel is the best.
The drive there can be a bit intimidating for some. I am used to mountain driving, so I was fine. Very steep, curvy, single lane road. It is paved. On the way out we had no signal for our gmaps. Panic time. We just back tracked up to the top of the first hill and we had...
