Were in Marion for the Bluegrass Festival. Was tired of tomato sandwiches and wanted a nice New York Strip steak, so we found this on the web. Nice looking place and real big. A lot of people were eating there. Sign out front said "voted best steaks in McDowell County 2017". Should have stuck with the old adage to not order steak at a fish place. Anyway, I ordered a New York Strip, medium well and I couldn't wait to taste that distinct NYS flavor. When the meal came, you could tell the steak had been frozen. It looked sort of like a NYS, but you could not tell if it was cooked medium well or what. It was sort of grey inside and just had some brown flat grill marks on the edges and did not have the distinct smell and flavor. The brown marks were from the grill it had been thawed out on versus cooking. The salad bar was good and the Waitress was very nice and friendly. My friend ordered flounder, it too was frozen and thin, but he said it was ok. As much as I hoped I could, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I would have given it a one, but the salad bar and waitress were worth a...
Read moreThe customer service was very good. However, the food was bland & lacked seasoning. I ordered the whole catfish and the portion size was smaller than I expected for catfish. Not to mention, it lacked flavor. My sweet potato tasted like it was cooked in the microwave. It was stringy tasting. My son's corn was also bland. My husband ordered Swai fish and it had a bit of flavor. The hushpuppies were the best item. I did have to drain some of the grease. These are served complimentary. They were much warmer too than our fish. The restaurant showcased a sign in the window showcasing it as the best seafood business in McDowell county. I think this was also a part of our disappointment. This created a rather high expectation. Needless to say, this small town restaurant gives a welcoming environment with smiles and conversation. But the food needs more of its...
Read moreStopped in while traveling because this place received such great reviews. We expected so much more! I ordered white Alaskan with oysters and fries. My fiance ordered blackened salmon and baby shrimp with home fries. The food was so oily that I had trouble eating. My fries were brought out cool to the touch, but at least they were not soaked in grease. My fiance finished his mediocre salmon, but could only handle about two shrimp. The food was absolutely SOAKED in grease. We left with our plates still full and stomachs empty. Our waitress noticed all the food left behind, but didn't sat anything. At this point we realized the food was extremely overpriced for subpar food. We paid $45 for food we...
