We've been to the Spikehorn a few times and haven't been disappointed yet. Located on the North side of Houghton Lake, you could almost say that it's "tucked away" but since it's right there on the main drag of the North shore, it's pretty much in plain sight. A nice, modern interior, it still has a very rustic, Northern Michigan Lake Look, complete with pine paneling, though in a tasteful sort of way. It's a good place for Date Night and they even have live music frequently. The service at the Spikehorn has been consistently timely and we've never had to wait for food or drink, though admittedly we haven't been there when it's swamped, so don't know how they deal with high volume. The menu has a nice variety and I was pleased to find a pretty dang good Burrito. Nice. Not just the standard bar fare. And of course, it wouldn't be fair not to mention the full bar, with a fairly decent selection of beers on tap. I had a tasty dark beer that complimented the Burrito nicely. No review would be complete without a trip to the Head, the Latrine, the Litter Box, Water Closet, Indoor Outhouse, whatever. The Bathroom. It's nice to be able to say the Spikehorn passes the test. There's enough room for more than one person, it's clean, well lit and fully functional. Sounds minor, but it's amazing how many places don't get it right. (However, I can only speak for the Men's room. I'm pretty sure it's almost never a good idea to check the Women's restroom just for a review.) After another satisfying meal, with a beer or okay maybe two, our bill arrived on request and we checked out in short order. Once again we were not disappointed at the Spikehorn. I'm relatively sure you won't be either, though that is in no way a legally binding promise.

We stopped in at Spikehorn and had a great overall experience. Tiffany our server was attentive and friendly. We started with the chicken enchilada soup, which was flavorful and comforting. It came with both bread and tortillas, which was a nice touch. My wife had the broasted chicken, and it was excellent. The skin was perfectly crisp and the meat stayed juicy and tender. We also tried the ribs, which had good flavor and were nicely cooked. The wet burrito was a standout, filled with seasoned ground beef, topped with enchilada sauce, and served with a side of Spanish rice. Classic and satisfying. We ordered mozzarella sticks too. They were pretty typical bar-style, but still enjoyable. The atmosphere is bar like, casual and a bit loud, with a full service bar and a steady crowd. The staff was attentive and friendly throughout. It was a busy night so the food took a little while to come out, but the wait was reasonable. All in all, a solid place to grab a hearty meal with good service in a laid back setting.

My family came and checked this place out since we just bought a place a few minutes away. We have a big family and they only had a few tables that could seat us, but they did. (We ended up coming back again a week later with my in-laws, and needed an even bigger table). I got the club sandwich with fries, my husband got the broasted chicken dinner and said it was better than Frankenmuth! My sons got the cheeseburgers and my other son got a cheese pizza, my daughter got tacos. Everyone loved their food. When we went back, I got a chicken pasty with gravy and a side salad, and it was yummy too. My husband got the nachos the second time we went and I tried it, I would get that next time! The service was good and we will be back!

I was served RAW broasted chicken!!! And No Apology Made!!! The off-the-charts rude Bartender just explained how sometimes if it's large it isn't cooked. Well, if they are aware of that then why don't they cook it longer? Thank God I didn't bite into it. After cutting into it and contaminating my whole plate of food and possibly salmonila poisoning the bartender did not bring me my beans. I asked for them and she said, "you ate nearly all of them." Did she see me? No, bc I shared the meal with my friend of which she knew and argued about giving me half a bowl of green beans. Besides being rude, she lied to my face about eating them. I don't think I have ever been treated so poorly by wait staff and I used to serve myself for seven years during my college days. A few years ago I sold my house nearby and missed the area so I told my friend about this great place that sells broasted chicken. I totally forgot about the miserable bartender as I used to frequent that restaurant weekly. We stopped and were patient to get our meal and so excited for my friend to try it. I can wholeheartedly say that experience will keep me from ever returning to that restaurant. I had to apologize to my friend for witnesseing such rudeness. You know who you are Bartender. I hope someday you can figure out why you're so damn miserable and spreading your sickness to all that sit...

In town for vacation with wife and son. This was top rated restaurant locally so we decided to come here for dinner on our last night in town.

Waitress never introduced herself. My wife ordered the NY strip and so did I but was told she ordered the last one (at 7pm). I remember someone posting they had the best ribs ever so I ordered a half slab. My ribs arrived cold. No warmth at all. The waitress checked to ask how things were and I told her my food came completely cold. She said okay and walked away. I didnt want it. The host/busser asked what was wrong and I explained. He said he would tell the cooks. The bill came and I was being charged for the total. I asked the waitress if I could have it removed since it was cold and I didn't eat it. She said she would check and when she returned explained that they normally would remove the cost if I had ordered something else in its place. But 1, that wasn't asked or offered by her and 2, the thing I wanted my wife ended up with the last one of!!!! They took half off my order. So I paid $7 for canned green beans and lukewarm fries.

This is not a good place to eat. ...
