We’ve dined at Cutthroat Café several times over the years and have always had a great experience, but I’m sad to admit I’ve never written a review until now—this place truly deserves one. I’m a bit hit-or-miss when it comes to keeping up with reviews of all the spots we visit, but this time I had to make it a priority.
This isn’t just about the food (which is always solid), but about the people and the heart behind this place. During our most recent visit, we found ourselves in a bind after a disappointing situation with our reservation for dinner at 7pm at Sorrenson’s at Desolation Hotel Hope Valley. We were guests staying there and had a confrimed Open Door reservation that they would not accept due to a wedding party. We were forced to drive 15 minutes out, arriving at Cutthroat Café at 7:45 PM—just 15 minutes before closing.
We hate putting any restaurant staff in that position, but we were genuinely desperate for dinner. To our relief, the staff couldn’t have been more kind or accommodating. They welcomed us warmly and never made us feel rushed.
Cutthroat Café is a charming, down-to-earth gem with a fun little bar and a menu full of satisfying options. The hospitality is what really sets it apart. Whether you’re popping in for a casual meal or showing up a little frazzled like we did, you’ll be treated like family. We’ll definitely be back—and next time,...
Read moreI was visiting family for the weekend and was so excited to check this place out. We happened to stop in on a Saturday when the Market at Markleeville was going on also. I had such a fantastic time! I was so impressed in the level of detail put into this place. From the moment you walk in, the charm immediately hits you. The decor is thoughtful and rich with history. Every detail feels like a tribute to the town’s roots, while still feeling fresh and welcoming. The music was really enjoyable and the staff is equally warm and inviting, making you feel like a local even if it’s your first time visiting. I opted for an Aperol Spritz and some fish tacos. The perfect combo on a hot summer day. The cheese curds were phenomenal also. Someone else had ordered these for the table, but I was really struggling to share because they were so good. If you’re anywhere near Markleeville, I highly recommend...
Read moreWe recently made our way to The Cutthroat for the first time, and wow, we loved it! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a warm welcome. To the left, the bar was packed with people chatting and laughing, having a great time. We were seated on the patio, and decided to start with the pretzel bites, fried pickles, and cheese curds. Everything was super tasty, but the cheese curds were definitely the winner—especially with those three dipping sauces. The pesto one? So good.
I also tried a couple Pale Ales, which I’m now hooked on. While we were hanging out, I noticed how happy everyone seemed. It felt like everyone really appreciated being there, and it just had such a good vibe.
Oh, and if you go, definitely take a minute to check out the old photos inside. The history of the place and the town is actually pretty cool. Highly recommend...
