We went this past Saturday night after a long day. I’ve been here often, and continue to go because it’s one of the very few restaurants I can rely on for great service, great food and predictability.
The restaurant was pretty full, and seemed under-staffed. With that being said, we hunkered down expecting some delays, no big deal.
Our hostess was very efficient the whole night. She sat us and got our drinks promptly. Denny’s has the only coffee I can drink black, it’s delicious. My waitress, Kristen (?) seemed tired, which during a Saturday night rush and next to a hotel, is completely understandable. After a longer wait than usual, our food came. This was slightly puzzling, because all the tables around us except a couple had food or just arrived, but I’m not sure how the other side looked. There must be a new cook making the pancakes, because they were not cooked or prepared as they usually are when we go. The cinnamon roll pancakes looked like the other caramel (?) ones. The cinnamon roll topping was cooked into the pancakes instead of spread on top like usual, and the icing only came on the side instead of both on top and on the side. There were dollops of whipped cream all over it, instead of just in the center like it’s usually served/on the picture. Again, not a big deal, but attention to detail is my personal nit-pick. The pancakes were much crispier than usual because the cinnamon sugar topping was cooked into it. The banana pancakes were perfect.
Food was delicious, hot and fresh, and otherwise accurately made. Drink refills were non-existent unless requested. I guess coffee rounds are reserved only for breakfast? The waitress didn’t ask how the food was and was unavailable/wouldn’t even look at us once she brought new pancakes. She was otherwise a wonderful and friendly waitress. My partner was upset about his empty coffee cup though.
Overall, Denny’s is a great restaurant for what it is. I prefer this one to the next closest one in Battle Creek, but the parking is better in Battle Creek. My last experience wasn’t bad in any way (except for 1 of the 2 ladies restroom stalls having a wet/toilet paper-covered seat), I believe they were simply understaffed...
Read moreI've been really disappointed with Denny's' as I travel the country. This location has restored my faith. (It is independently owned, so there's that.) Walking in brought back so many memories from my childhood. That was a great start to a good experience. It was hard to tell if the "classic" feel was manufactured (the building was built 17 years ago, so yes) but it "felt good" being there. Some of these others have become so run down and unpleasant.
And the food was phenomenal. And plentiful. It looked how it was supposed to, in my opinion. My last few Denny's experiences have been disappointing to the point of not wanting to return. To any Denny's. The portions at the other Denny's have become smaller over the years. A skillet meal practically hides under the eggs, and is mostly potatoes. This one was worth the shot and I'm glad I gave Denny's one more chance.
I got Eggs Over My Hammy, (my go to) and it had a lot of eggs (what I first thought was to make up for the lately lack of ham) but I was delighted to see more than two slices of ham!
The waitress (Nicky, I think) convinced one of my dining partners to take a gamble on an egg dish claiming that the cook, "Manuel" knows how to make eggs right. He sure did! My partner LOVED the egg dish.
All the workers seemed happy and genuinely concerned with our service. Maggie, who seated us was the right amount of bubbly and adept.
And (as an artist) I LOVED that one of the staff had decorated the whiteboards with drawings, something I have experience in and know how difficult it is.
Overall, we would definitely go the extra couple miles to eat here over the others...
Read moreThis is the WORST Denny's experience I ever had. I have never had customer service that bad before. We arrived to pick up or to go order. When asked how many in our party I stated we are picking up a to go order the girl just said oh ok and walked away... ten mins past while our food was sitting on the warmer I asked a waitress as she walked by if I could get my food she just said looks like they just finished it and disappeared... finally the cooks call out to have to pick up order bagged. They set it on the counter and walked away again. So I daid can I please have my order, it has now been 20 mins since I walked in the store. They double checked the order so in my silliness assumed it was right, took it home and I was missing 2 items. When I went back I walked up to the lady at the counter who again didnt even acknowledge me so I asked for a manager. I explained my issue to her and she called back to have those itmes remade. Five mins later the cook asks 3 different people to confirm what was needed to be made and they all daid "I dont know" so I called out what I needed. The manager and the cooks were great but those waitresses need to rethink working in CUSTOMER SERVICE because they are lacking in that department...
