Being a cook I love trying new places . Sadly I don’t usually have anything good to say about the food in East Texas. It’s not great and this is me being honest . However when my plate arrived the food looked amazing ! The presentation and amount was very pleasing to the eye . I ordered the chicken fried steak with candied yams and greens . I loved the chicken fried steak , it was crispy thick and not tough . The gravy lacked flavor or but it was still good . Don’t get me wrong the gravy wasn’t bad just used to more flavorable gravy’s with soul food . The gravy isn’t the prize here anyways . The apple of my eye was the candied yams . If I could hear angels I’m sure they were singing as I took my first bite . The chicken fried steak was so delicious also . The greens had so much flavor , wasn’t my favorite but know Im not a lover of greens, though it’s the best greens I’ve ever tried . They are just not my thing really . Now the corn bread let’s talk about cornbread!!! The look of the corn bread is what amazed me the beautiful coloring and shiny butter top had me drooling and wondering how did they get it so pretty !! It belonged in a art museum some where . Its beauty had me at first site . When I took the first bite though the dryness had me grabbing my glass of water . It was very dense and very dry but the flavor still had me . I ate it all ! Though I couldn’t brag about the corn bread , I also considered the place was about to close when I came in , which could be the reason for a dry cornbread . It may have been better when it was fresher . Though it still was too dense for my taste some people prefer that . I would still order it and eat it , who can pass up corn bread ? If you have not tried this place , I would go now and go quickly .The staff was polite and very welcoming . I’m surprised this place is not bragged about . I mean never even heard of it . Well now its unforgettable . Hats to the cook and may you delight me with more of your...
Read moreThis was our first time here and we were so excited to try their food . The lady who greeted us was very nice. Our waitress was either inexperienced or doesn’t like her job. She wasn’t knowledgeable about the menu and when I asked her what kind of kool aid they had she said “we just have one kind, idk what flavor it is.” My husbands tea had about 1/4 glass left and he asked for ice to add to it. She said I can take the glass and add ice, didn’t bother to top it off or even ask if he wanted more.
I got chicken fried steak (it was tough, over cooked and had a lot of pepper) with greens (they were bitter) and Mac and cheese (would have been good if it was hot but it came out warm and cold in some places).
My husband got oxtail ( he said they were ok) mash potatoes ( I don’t think they use butter, flavor was bland) & green beans (they were ok but not a lot of flavor as we expected) and a side of turkey neck ( it was tender but lacked flavor, they ain’t got nothing on Lil Animals Crawfish neck bone!). I had to get up and go to our waitress who was eating while standing by the kool aid (I finally saw it was red) for our hot water cornbread (tasted like it was cooked in old grease) about 10-15min after we got our food. The waitress never check on us or asked us how our food was. She was on her phone most of the time.
We definitely will not be back. It was a...
Read moreMy sister who has lived in Marshall for two years is a big fan of Elisha and her Facebook Morning videos. Today we chose to visit her establishment. Visiting from Corpus Christi we were excited to try some southern soul food. We were NOT disappointed! The food was amazing. So flavorful and the portions are heaping! We ordered 4 different entrees and an appetizer plus two desserts because the menu was generous with options. We tried the smothered turkey wings, smothered grilled pork chop. We also tried the whole fried catfish and the oxtails. For the appetizer we ordered the fried green tomatoes and for dessert the German chocolate cake and some banana pudding. Every dish was so flavorful, beautiful presentation and great quality. The server took a bit to get to our table and take our drink order but once we got this out of the way the rest of our lunch experience was amazing. We will make this a traditional visit every time we are in Marshall. Kudos to...
