Look... This is a Roadside TEX Mex Restaurant in Illinois... AND it's a really awesome Roadside TEX Mex Restaurant in Illinois! I'm sorry, we didn't take pictures of the food, but I was right at that moment of hangry where things go dark. It looked like all the other pictures on these reviews. We had the Choriqueso as an app (we kinda thought it was going to come out like a Queso Fundido) and to our surprise it was rockin'. The chorizo was just greasy enough where you're like "yeahhhhh"... and not "this is going to cause problems on the road tomorrow." Very fluid cheese base, sticks to chips, but not goopy. My better half had the Carnitas and I had a Chicken Chimichanga. After the first bite, we just blankly stared at each other... minds blown. I could tell my husband was like "how did you find this place?" Meat is seasoned fantastic. Mine crispy, not soggy (I had them put the cheese sauce on the side, just in case). Beans and Rice were amazing. As for my husband's, he was very quiet and destroyed his plate. I snuck a little piece of his pork... So freaking good. Staff were so friendly and accommodating. We sat on the porch, because our traveling companion can't come in most restaurants. We pulled up next to the patio, let the window down, and he was able to join us with no issues to health codes or whatever. We did go and hour before close, it was quiet, and a Thursday. Be respectful. Don't go rolling up on a Saturday night or Monday lunch thinking you can pull those shenanigans. They let us sit and enjoy an extra beer at close while they mopped and it means so much to folks that are about to sit in a hotel room across the street. (Thanks so much guys.) I also want to say that it seems very accommodating to truckers as well. We are not truckers, but family is so we can appreciate the ease for the guys on the road. Good parking for big rigs. Seems very new, so the inside is a little bare bones. I'm sure when they decorate, it will be a mute point. However, super clean. Can't say enough good things. Big Fan and I have it pinned for the next time we are...
Read more700+ reviews can't be wrong! As an over-the-road trucker packing next door is ample, I've had about 5 dinners here in the past this is my honest review.
The portion size for the price can't be beaten, flavor In chicken or beef can't tell the difference, the fajitas are the largest portion of food I've seen for $15. Especially considering it had shrimp, chicken, steak, and chorizo, it was fairly greasy but a nice change from the normal chimichangas I have here which is also delicious, don't get me wrong the fajitas were great but the shock of all that food, and 3 very small flour tortillas and to my shock when I asked for a few more it seemed like a not big deal, then I saw the bill... I should have been warned about the extra cost, although just 1.75... but still this set a bad taste in my mouth and in displeasure to the service my waiter wasn't tipped. His tip is in the details and the lack of them, suggest serving atleast 5 tortillas..
I noticed all the servers were men and not chatty, being a driver I eat alone and hardly ever a sit-down place a little banter goes a long way, something waitresses seem to be good at just an idea, get a few? The washrooms were well stalked and clean, the problem is they were built for 5ft tall people the sinks were so low I thought I was supposed to wash my genitalia, obviously I didn't but the sink was that low... I'm 6ft 3 and even a 6ft person would notice how low they are men's..
3.5 stars is what I would give the place on a big picture returning customer review and I'll be back, I enjoy the food, and the salsa ain't half bad, not to mention the parking next door is normally quiet. Big truck or camper friendly no need for the pilot. 15 trucks In here easily unless you get a swift parked all...
Read moreAmazing food. I had the shrimp tacos with Chipotle mayo, Margarita on the rocks, a Corona, and the fried ice cream. The shrimp taco platter was huge and I could only eat one taco and finish off the rice before the Margarita kick in and I was starting to get full but I really wanted the fried ice cream. So I boxed everything up, finished the Margarita, and ordered the fried ice cream. I finished the ice cream barely and I still had a beer to finish. Now I am really full. Ugh... So I gave the atmosphere a 4 star only because they are renovating the kitchen and that is the only reason. I will give 5 stars for everything else. My only question was that if the food was this good then where are all the customers? Hence the lengthy review. Prices are...
