Meemaw's is a Martinsville hidden gem! I've been several times and can honestly say, have not had a bad meal. You'll have to take country road to get there but I promise it's worth every twist & turn. On my first visit I met a Meemaw's regular, Miss Kitty. She gave us the run down on the daily specials. Everything... and I do mean everything was delicious. On our latest visit we ordered all the specials, staring with the chicken 'n waffles. The waffle covered the entire plate. Slightly crispy on the outside but light and fluffy on the inside, topped 3-4 large chicken tenders, finished with butter and drizzled with warm maple syrup. It was so tasty that my cousin wanted to lick the plate at the end of the meal. Next we had the chicken salad sandwich. Two Large scoops of chicken salad piled on with lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles. This was a real jaw stretching sandwich. We ordered the mushroom Swiss burger. This is so good it'll make you want to slap yo self! Big plump burger patty grilled to perfection then topped with sauteed mushrooms and thick slices of Swiss cheese. So yummy! I ordered the chicken fried steak and country fried potatoes. OMG!! Have you ever took a bite of something that was so good that it made you humm? This was that meal. I think I was humming until the last bite. The steak was tender and not overly battered, cooked to a light crisp and then covered with rich country gravy. Paired with the fried potatoes it was a dish made in food heaven. Our table also ordered the fried fish sandwich that you needed two hands to pick up & enjoy. Light white fish with all the sandwich fixins'. All our meals came with a side dish that was equally as delicious. The portion sizes are tummy stuffin' sized so you leave with a full belly no matter what you ordered. We meet new folks every time we come but we've never felt like visitors. Meemaw's feels like home. Looking forward to counting myself...
Read moreIf you're due for a scenic drive and would like to go somewhere to eat while out and about, then this is a place to truly consider. The restaurant isn't very big but it is full of heart and character. The decor is cute as as a button and also unique. I love the fact that it's practically in the middle of nowhere and yet, being from the country myself (not that I know how to milk a cow), I still feel rather at home. Beth and her husband pretty much run the place themselves alone, yet they still keep the place hopping. They make a good team. But, the food is definitely the draw, as any local patron will tell you. And, it doesn't matter if you're there for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, so I was told (check for days and time open). I, myself, have not been there for breakfast before. However, I do have that on the backburner as a goal. What kinds of food do they have, do you ask? Well, they have anything from ribeye steaks to fried fish dinners, quesadillas, bologna sandwiches, vegetable plates, or even corn fritters, just to name a few. What's my favorites? I haven't been there very many times but I can vouch for them having mouthwatering burgers, on the spot handcut fries, right out of the garden tasting salads, and FRESHLY SQUEEZED lemonade. (I've literally seen them in action while they were making the latter.) Dont forget to save room for dessert. Some are on display, some aren't. They won't mind telling you what they have to offer. But, be careful. They can be gone pretty quickly. That strawberry sauce on the cheesecake that my husband let me take a taste test of is still memorable. I hope that this...
Read moreSo funny story... My husband, brother in law and myself were on a bit of a road trip on the way to NC to visit some family. There's one restaurant they just didn't want to stop in so we found another called Grandpappy's and attempted to go there. Google said they were open but when we pulled in, they were closed with a sign on the door that said, "no help." So we started our search and my brother in law goes, hey There's a place called Meemaws. After we all laughed for a hot minute saying forget Grandpappys were going to Meemaws. When I tell you this was by far the BEST spot, it really is. The big Ole white board had three specials on it, one being Stuffed French Toast with raspberries and whipped cream, country fried steak and fried tenderloins. We ordered all three, didn't take long at all for it to come out and man oh man was everything delicious. Normally my husband and brother inlaw inhale their food and have to wait at least 20 to 30 minutes for me to finish eating... But I beat both of them, that stuffed French toast was out of this world I couldn't help it. So that being said, be you local or just passing through, it may look small and hidden but I promise you it is worth it. Support your local and small business!!! We will definitely be back next time we're either passing through or if I can convince them to make a...
